Ok a Sickening Question..

When I had my bad reaction to my Imuran (which I stopped now almost 2 weeks ago)  it was because I was doing severe vomiting and diahrea with blood in both. The ER told me to go to my reg doctor about the blood, so I did. He says its due to medication. Well, I just had blood in stool again (I mean like a menstration cycle flow from my stools). Is it possible for the imuran to stay in me nearly two weeks later? I just have this weird feeling that is all, and I'm scared. Should I go back to the ER? Should I call my primary doctor again? Oncologist doctor? What should I do? Im thinking something might be really wrong. All I know is a person should not have a menstration cycle flow of blood out of their tush.

Hi, hope you are beginning to feel better. After 10 days on my Imuran, I had a severe reaction. Temp spiked to 104 and the sharp, stabbing pin in my head was indescribable (I've had migraines and this was worse). My back - along the spinal cord - swelled up and I could barely move. I had an upset stomach and some lower abdominal cramping but no blood as you described. After a trip to the hospital, they took me off the Imuran immediately, and I began feeling relief about 24 hours later. But, it was probably a week before I felt the worst was over. I will never take it again!

Also, just mentioining - I am no expert. The blood as you described happened to me last summer, I was checked out and found to have "lupus induced pancreatitis". They put me on medication and are monitoring it, as that, too, can be quite serious. Something like the lupus decided to pick on my pancreas instead of my kidneys - how thoughtful!

Your pharmacist is a good place to start because they know more about meds than doctors, plus you can always get someone to talk to you right away. I make it a habit to have a good relationship with my pharmacist. But I'd let my doctor know too. Right away. Abnormal bleeding is nothing to fool around with.

I'm sorry you didn't get any answers from the ER - I think the ER can be so frustrating. Please do make an appointment with your doc ASAP because someone needs to figure out what is going on. Keep us updated and take care of yourself.
