How many people have been sun worshipers or have use sun beds. cool

Hi Gina, I have been sun sensitive since I was in my young 20's. It causes a rash pretty quickly and I realized after many years, that it also caused fatigue and sometimes connective tissue pain. But it was after a vacation in Aruba (is was in my late 40's) that I realized that I had a REAL problem. Up until then, I just thought I was "allergic" to the sun. The next couple years, I couldn't tolerate even a short exposure. Are you suns sensitive? Blessings!

Hi I think I have started to be sensitive, my eyes hurt in bright snow or sunlight and I get a rash when I am in the sun, and don't like the heat so much, I suppose with the hot sweats, contributes to how I feel. I loved going on holiday and sunbathing, but I don't think that I could do it now.
I was reading a paper on test were being done regards to people who like sunbathing, or using sunbeds.[sunworshipers] may be connected to forming Lupus. I like many others like the sun, it will be intersting to see the follow up on these studies. Thank you for your reply, take care of yourself. and speak again soon.

Hi again Gina . . . I think they'll find that the sun exposure is not "causing" Lupus . . . but it does trigger a flare in people who have lupus. There is a big difference. But it would be interesting to see the results of the study. Blessings!

Spent a good part of my life in the sun....golf, swimming, hiking, skiing (both water and snow) and rarely used sunscreen. My skin tans very dark and I rarely burned unless I overdid it on the first day or two of the season.

Although I have lupus I have no sun sensitivity at all. I have used sun screen for the past 25+ years but suffer from skin damage from my earlier years.

It seems there are more lupers who have sun sensitivity than not so I feel lucky that I can enjoy skiing, hiking, and just being outside without concern. That would be a big loss to my favorite activities.

Hi my name is jayne, i have just been diagnosed with lupus i am 43 but i have had the rash on my face since my early 20s,the rash seems to come up when i out in the sun or if i am unwell ,it would be good to get more info and talk to people the same, i am at this moment writing this in bed i am unwell and so tired i work full time and i am thinking of going part time because of the tiredness any tips would be helful thankyou x

I would by no means call myself a sun worshipper..or whatever term you wanted to use. I never used the tanning beds, and didn't really go and hang outside to tan much. I wouldn't say I NEVER did it, but really like less then 5 times in my teenage years. I was much to busy with other activities. I spent time in the sun, yes, but only while busy with other activities. Never really gave it much thought, except for now and being extremely aware of what time of day it is, and asking myself, "When's the last time I put sunscreen on?" and "where's my hat?" So, you can kinda mark me down for a non- sun worshipper. Hope that helps.

I have had the red mask for a couple of years now. When it first happened I was so afraid that it was some kind of skin cancer or something. I have tanned in the beds a few times. I was most of my life very active outside in the summer. We would go to the lake or the pool. We would ride bikes and camp. I never wore sunscreen. I always found that no matter how fast they said it would absorb it wasn't quick enough. Have any of you ever tried to mow the yard with sunscreen on? lol it don't work. My MD told me that he had heard that a lot of times people genetically are suseptable to Lupus or other autoimmune disease and it they fast some kind of illness or excess stress on their body that it can trigger the disease to become active. I don't know, it was just a theory. Either way, now I avoid the sun completely.

 I don't have any sensitivity to the sun either thanks God! we only have sun 2 months out of the year so I must! enjoy it. I used to walk in the sun 2 to 3 hours a day during the summer. I did wear sunscreen though. I wear and 85 sunscreen and still burn quick but I don't get sick or rashes or anything like that.  My rash come and goes when ever but my rheumy says because the rash goes right up to my nose on the sides and it's not noduals that it's not a butterfly rash. I hope it's along time or never! before I can't go in the sun. I love it!!!!
