Friend refusing treatment

Well I just got off the phone with one of my Lupus friends in FL and she told me last week she had been diagnosed with lupus nephritis. She had a kidney biopsy and they pumped her full of Solu-Medrol for 3 days....not sure what the dosage was. She was sent home and today the kidney biopsy came back, she met with her doctor and her doctor put her on 60 mg of pred and 1000 mg of cellcept. She has been in good shape and only had been taking 200 mg of plaquinil. She told me that she is not going to take any more medication. She is tired of being reminded that she is sick. So my question...what is going to happen to her. I tried my hardest to convince her to take it but she said no. She is a really good friend of mine so I feel like I can say anything to her...What can I tell her to scare her into taking the meds? She doesnt think that this is a big deal. Help me Help her please... Amy

Well, I don't like being so blunt, but if you want to scare her into reality, she needs to know that if she doesn't take these medications, she will be in line for a kidney transplant, or worse, she'll be dead.  Lupus is not to be taken lightly, especially when such important organs are involved.  It sounds like she's in the "anger or denial" stage of grieving.  We all go through the stages, but when someone decides to just stop their life saving medications, they've taken the grieving to a new level.  Do you think she's serious, or just looking for attention?  You're a very good friend Amy.  She's blessed to have you in her life.  You really care about her, more than she cares about herself it seems.  She needs to know that serious consequences will occur if she stops her meds.

I will be praying for you and asking for guidance when you speak to her.

I don't think fear is going to get her to take meds. It didn't get me to take meds, I have slight kidney issues and don't take any meds for my lupus and I'm doing ok.

She wants to forget it because she thinks it will hal itself or she just wants to give up?

Well, I have tried and tried to talk to her today but she keeps refusing my calls. I sent her a text message saying I really needed to talk to her and she said that if it was about her decesion not to bother. That her mind was made up. And yes, she is being 100% serious. I am positive its not for attention. It breaks my heart because I have been friends with her since 2nd grade...We both have so much in common. Always have and we both where diagnosed with Lupus the same year and now we both have been diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis with-in a month of each other. I just pray that she will be okay without her meds. Maybe once the plaquenil gets out of her system, a flare will be most likely to pop up and she will realize how important her meds really are. I pray that she isnt giving up... Peacesoul, how long have you had kidney issues? Did you ever treat them or did you just see how they would get on their own?
