Dark freckles, hard patches on edges of face, gained 15 pounds in two days after steroid injections

I looked in the mirror today, I haven't done that alot lately, and I looked terrible. My skin looks much older and more wrinkly, I have hard dry patches on my cheeks and dark pigmented freckles are coming out from the sides of my face. Not to mention loads of fuzz, especially on the hard dark areas. It is horrible.

I also gained 15 pounds since my steroid injections and already feel that washed out feeling, though pain is still gone in myhip.  I'm afraid something is really messed up. I'm gettingliver spotsall over. 

Has anyone had the hard dark patches and freckling on the sides of the face? Can this be from increased sun sensitivity from steroids or disease?  Should I be worried about the weight gain so suddenly? Usually I lose weight on steroids.  I don't know what the threshold is. The odd thing is Ive had diarrhea for a day or so after the injections, you would think I would lose weight. Thanks for anyhelp you can give. I don't think I can handle this kind of tx for my back. I feel like my liver is really messed up.

Marji, The weight gain sounds normal, and the fuzz on your face is exactly what happened to me. I started looking like a bloated, hairy animal. I didn't look like myself and friends gasped when they saw me. But don't worry - it will go back to normal when you stop taking prednisone.

In hindsight, it was all worth it because it slowed down my symptoms so much.

I can't help you with the dry patches and pigment changes.

Yup, the weight gain is pretty normal. I think you might actually be the first person that has said they lost weight on steriods (that I have heard). I did get some fuzz but about a month later, I actually started loosing the hair on my arms and legs, and now my head hair is getting thinner...not sure if that is from the prednisone or the cellcept or maybe both.

I would recomend if you can, get some type of lotion that prevents stretch marks. I got them horribly from the extreme weight gain...under armpits, back, stomach, thighs, behind knees, pretty much everywhere except my face...maybe try to prevent them! sorry you have been having troubles!!!

Prednisone didn't bother my head hair, but it sure did thin when on Cellcept. I didn't fuss much, as the Cellcept gave me back my brain which I'd gladly trade my hair for anytime!

I did gain some Predisone weight, and have some darker pigmented places -- but not on my face. I don't know what differences might occur between oral and inhectable steroids. Definetly mention to the steroid Dr!

As for face fuzz....oh my! If I had a darker completion or hair I'd be looking like a werewolf for sure! I had plenty before all this lupus started, and double that now.

So you aren't alone, but that doesn't always help much, does it?

Oh Marji, I wish I had something to offer in the way of advice. I think a call into your doctor might be a good idea. I get lots of face fuzz even on low doses of pred, that is normal, but not sure about the dark patches and liver spots.  Let your doctor know your concerns for sure.

Thanks, Patty, Amy, Lynnwood and Ginny. I was always a little hairy, but now! The pigment is creepy and I'm making an appt. with the dermatologist tomorrow because the endo told me I needed to go through all the biopsies and all before he'd do anything.

The sun is so bad now, and I cant go outside at all with it so bad, that's probably the problem. It took a straight year with almost no sun to get my skin looking better, then I was so sick of being inside, I went out, with sunscreen, but still. Five minutes is all it takes.

Is there a facial lotion that slows the peach fuzz growth? I know they used to make something you put on your legs so you don't have to shave as much.

These injections were borderline almost too strong, they are lucky I didnt end up calling them up and giving them a piece of my mind. You know that feeilng. Just hanging in there, barely. I don't like that much. I'm scheduled for two more injections in a week and a half and I have to cancel. Once I got too much in an injection from my rheumie and it lasted reallly long and made my ears ring for days. I just don't think I can handle the steroids like I used to anymore. Thanks for the help. I hope it does go away.

I get the darker areas on my face and hands. I used to be extremely dark complected, but only in spots now. The 'fuzz' is the bain of my existence! I have coal black (and now white) hair, so just imagine. It's a constant battle. I am really sorry you are dealing with it. I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Judy

I call myself a calico these days, because thats about what I am! Like a calico cat. Im' sorry you have the skin color stuff too. Its a real real bummer, especally the white patches. They glow under fluorescent and blacklights. I'm a trip at Spencer's gifts!
