Started the generic cellcept 10 days ago with an "introductory" dose. After about 4 days, I upped to the regular dose. It worked! Pain and swelling all but disappeared! Hooray!
Next day the itching started. Day later, the hives started appearing. Maybe I could just wait out the reaction and I would adjust?
Couldn't stand it - I am a mass of bruises from scratching. I know better, but just one small "scratch" and I couldn't stop.
Called the doctor, stopped the cellcept. I am so mad! Now, according to the doctor, we will have to see if the reaction triggered anything else.
And did I mention that the cellcept was working? UGHH!! I had forgotten what it was like to feel nothing - no pain.
Sorry - had to get it out.

So sorry that the generic Cellcept didn't do it for you.

Maybe that side effect won't bother you if you try name-brand? I know it's expensive (I used it to save my brain from mush), but depending on what symptoms it's helping with, it could be worth it.

(If a generic is going to bother me, it always starts with the rash or the itching!)

Fran, sorry you are going through this. It is frustrating to find something that is making a
differance in your pain level only to find out your body cannot tolerate it. Hope you can
find a med that works without any crazy side affects.

Actually, it hadn't occurred to me that maybe the reaction was because it was a generic drug vs. brand name. I see my rheumy next month and I am going to ask if I can try again with the brand name. If he agrees, I will contact the manufacturer as someone else had suggested in an earlier post (I'm sorry - I can't remember who). Maybe I can get a break on price if my doctor is willing to help me out with a letter saying the generic caused a reaction. Worth a try! Thank you, again!
