How long to wait for test results?

What's the longest you ever had to wait for test results to diagnose your lupus? They did some tests like ANA along with some more specific tests to test for mixed connective tissue disease over a week ago and still no results. I thought they would be back in at least a week. The drs office said they had to send the labs out. I know the labs don't do specialty tests every day. If the results aren't back this Friday which would make two weeks, I am going to call them and ask them to call the lab to find out what happened. I want my results! I know ANA's are pretty standard.

For most drs, even when the labs come back they don't let their staff release the results until they've had a chance to look at them themselves...so sometimes the dr is back logged rather than the lab.

Two weeks is a fairly average time, in my experience. Hang in there...

Yeah like lynnwood said. I know for a fact mine have set on the doctors desk for over a week before. I know you posted this 2 days ago. Any word?

Hope this doesnt happen to you but the very first rhuemy I had said he hadnt gotten in my blood work, I called for 3 weeks in a row and by the 4th week it was time for my next apt. Hopefullly you won't have to wait much longer!!! When is your next apt??

My next apt isn't for 3 months. Tomorrow, it will be 2 weeks. I think that is plenty of time to wait. I am going to start calling again next week. This is rediculous. If I didn't feel so puny, I wouldn't be calling. I am tired!!!!!!

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. I have to say you have more patience then I do. I'd be calling tomorrow. At least to find out just exactly how long this test is supposed to take. I mean even if they are backed up some tests have to be done in a certain amount of time or they won't be any good. Even without test results I don't see why your doctor doesn't do anything to treat your symptoms. That is what they usually do anyway. Most of them treat autoimmune disease with the same drugs Putting you on a low dose of steroids and plaquanil shouldn't be a problem. But I'm no doctor.

thanks okie. He did give me some plaquenil but they say that takes time to work. I see you take it. Did it take a while for it to kick in for you?
I had to get a CT scan of my colon a few months ago. I am allergic to the x ray dye and had to take 40 mg of prednisone. Wow, I felt better than I had in years! I felt like I was 20 again! lol.. No aches or pains. It did give me insomnia though, that wasn't good. So, I hope the plaquenil will work ok for me soon. Thanks again okie! btw, nice poem!!!!

Hi Jean, yes predisone is one of those love/hate kind of drugs lol. as for the plaq. yes it is true it does take a long time. At least it did for me. I can't exactly say when it started to work. It was very suttle. After about 6 months I realized that I could put a t shirt on instead of a button up blouse. I couldn't lift my hands over my head before. I also noticed that my legs didn't feel like lead weights anymore. I sure it started to help earlier then 6 months but that's when i noticed it. It's not a miracle drug. I still have lead legs and painful joints I just don't have them every day. Hopfully your doctor can give you something to help you now.

That is exactly what my legs feel like some days. I think I notice a little difference so far from the plaquenil. I want to avoid prednisone unless it is absolutely necessary. I have borderline diabetes and am already way too heavy for my height.
