Bad news from rheumy

Well, I was supposed to meet with the rheumy on the 27th, but they called me today because my U/A was so bad. Leukocytes-many, RBC's-many, casts, protein, blood, minute traces of bacteria. He suggested that I go to my regular doctor to get ABx and to have my kidneys checked through BUN/creatinine, since I'm not having any symptoms of a UTI. Worried that I've had it for a long period of time without knowing because of no symptoms. Of course they didn't call me with the results until after my regular doctor was closed, so I have to go in the am. Ugh, I hope I don't have kidney damage from this!

Any thoughts?

Hey Jesimae, this is tricky. With the protein and hematuria, sounds a little like nephritis but the leukocytes do not at all. The traces of bacteria can be anything to getting bacteria in the cup when you put the lid back on the cup to the cup touching your skin. I am supprised that your rhuemy isnt taking this on. But please let me know what your blood work shows when you get it back. i know this is hard but please don't stress over this. Stressing can make lupus so much worse. A lot of times there are UTI or kidney infections that have no symptoms. I am a prime example. Almost everyone I have had, I had no idea except for my blood work. Dont think the worse, wait till you know for sure and then ask us any questions you might have!!

Thanks, Amy. Got antibiotics today, but everytime I take them I have a "flare" (if that's what it is). I've been doing better, so I'm not looking forward to that part, but maybe the rheumy will actually get to see some of my symptoms when I go back next week...
