Medicare and tricare effected

Carol, how can they even consider taking away your medicaid? Do funds from medicaid even come from the same place as medicare? What a terrible mess. I sure hope DHS doesn't follow thru with this. Try not to worry Sweetie. You have enough going on. Love Ya, Donna

Medicare is funded through monthly payments but there is no dedicated funding source for medicaid.  It is an extra every year that is ever increasing since there are so many uninsured now.  A friend of mine who is a well known economist has proposed that funding be established but neither party wants to tackle this problem.

Medicaid is a joint program with the states and federal government.  Each state administers its' own program and it is a means tested program.  I am not sure but I believe the program does vary from state to state unlike medicare which is strictly a federal program.

Tricare is funded from the defense budget I believe and is a separate program.

Some of my friends are on tricare and not having any problems.

The funding fiasco with medicare has been going on every year for many years.  Not sure what the stupid politics are but congress has done a yearly bill to cover doctors payments instead of permanently fixing the problem.  Of course, it stresses both patients and doctors out every year.....really stupid.  This has nothing to do with the new healthcare bill and has gone on for many years.

My point is simply that the medicare/tricare reimbursement fiasco is an annual event.  We should all tell our representatives in DC to fix it permanently instead of going through this every year.  I believe it was considered in the new healthcare bill but was not included for some reason....or lack of reason.

If they don't there will be problems for everyone on medicare or tricare.  We will have insurance but no doctors.....not rational.  Of course, I don't believe all the whining that doctors do either but this is legitimate.

Thanks for alll your input. I'm just very frustrated. I have medicare and champva which is not the same as champus. My champva is because my husband was 100% p&t from the service. (that's perminent and total). and then i have medicaid. The reason they want to take my medicaid is because I have a peice of property I'm selling on contract for 200.00 a month. It's worth 8000.00 dollars. so it's like 47 months in payments. All it's worth to me is 200.00 a month. I can't do anything with it unless they don't make the payments. and there is no way the bank would pick up the note so I can't sell it. Plus I'm not making anything off it so no one would buy the note knowing they won't make anything off of it. But medicaid says it's an 8000.00 dollar asset. Last year it was ok this year it's not? I've been completely honest about everything. . Anyway I guess there is a way of using it possibly for my funeral expenses. Unfortunately my SSD is only 800.00 a month and I really need the 200.00 for things like food? Well sorry I guess I probably told you more then you ever wanted to know about me. I think the stress is causing my fibro to act up. Plus my anxiety is thru the roof. But I don't want to ask my doctor to increase my anxiety meds. anyway I hope you all don't have any trouble with this medicare stuff. or tricare.
