I'm new here. I have been on prednisone for seven years now. I was diagnosed with Lupus about eight years ago and then Addison's Disease. It was the AD that caused me to have to take prednisone and fludrocortisone. If I just had Lupus, I wouldn't take the stuff.
I take a low dose, but I am convinced there is a connection between it and the condition of my teeth. I have always been very good with my dental hygiene. When my son was little, he called me a "flossipher" 
because I always floss after meals. But no matter how conscientious I am about my teeth, they are still falling apart. I have had several fillings just fall out. Cavities are appearing literally overnight. It's very upsetting to me because I do not have insurance, medical or dental, and no money to go to the dentist. I have even considered having all my teeth pulled out and getting dentures, just so I can smile and feel confindent that I'm not grossing anyone out.
Please, can someone tell me if I'm going nuts, or is there really a connection between long-term prednisone usage and dental problems. I can't seem to find any information on-line and my doctor doesn't seem to know. I know that prednisone can cause your teeth to be sensitive. But ironically, I don't have that problem. I asked an oral surgeon last year (when I had a tooth extracted) and he said prednisone cannot harm teeth as they are already formed. I don't believe him. Frankly, I don't trust doctors anymore. All they want to do is write out prescriptions and push their new drugs.
