Well the rheumy gave me a script of Prednisone the other day and I have been holding off on taking it.

I broke down this morning and took one. I did not want to have to but nothing else is helping me. I have had a day or two that were fairly pain free but that is it. I wake up all hours of the night in pain or just with insomnia.

I am at the end of my rope with this guys!

I haven't slept well for a couple months now and I am so exhausted and it is making me an emotional wreck!

Anyway... I took 1 5 mg tab this morning and was thinking I would try to take one every other day or so.

Any feedback would be great! I am afraid of side effects and long term effects on my body.

I don't wanna gain weight or have the dreaded moon face. I know it sounds vain but... this disease is taking everything from me and I am so tired of it!

Anyone with any experience with this drug please post your thoughts if you have a minute to spare.

Has it helped... what was your dosage... side effects... when did you feel better... can it bring you out of a flare and then go off of it and be ok for a while...

I just want to hear from the horses mouth so to speak. You can read all you want about a drug but it feels better when it comes from someone that has been there.

I understand completely your hesitation in taking the prednisone. It is always my last resort. That said, the difference it can make in getting a flare under control is amazing. I have never taken it long term. I will do the pred bursts or even get an injection just to get ahead of the symptoms. And it works wonders! The only thing that I might suggest is that you stay in contact with your rheumy. Especially if you don't take it exactly as prescribed (for example, I don't know how taking it every other day would affect a person). Hope you feel better, soon.

I understand whre you are coming from but you need to take the pred as your doctor prescribed or you will not feel the full benefit from it. As long as you are not taking high doses for long periods of time, you should avoid the main side horrors you hear people talk about. You might become hungry than usual but be prepared with healthy snack foods.

Are you a dose/Starter pack?? If so, how long?

Thanks for the replies! I am suppose to take 1 to 2 pills every day for 30 days. They are 5 mg tabs. My primary care doc told me today that I might want to go ahead and take 2 for about a week and then taper down to 1 for a week. I guess that is what I will do. I am hoping it will only be for a few weeks. No real game plan yet.
