need feedback for topical medication for lupus

Hi All,

My brother has lupus and has been using a steroid cream to treat lupus on his face. He said that the cream is helping with flares, mainly the itch, but he has been using it for years now.i told him that steroid cream should not be used for a long period of time and I believe he has developed a moon face because of it.

I have two questions I hope someone can help me with. First, is there a non steroid topical to help with the itch and flare? And two, is the moon face reversible?

Unfortunately, we currently don't have any medical insurance to get professional help.

I've never heard of a moon face from a topical application -- so don't know how that would work. I also don't know if long term use would be an issue.

Usually a moon face is from cortiosteroid (like prednisone) pills, and it does go away after a person stops taking the medication -- sometimes quickly, sometimes more slowly.

Hope that helps a little, hopefully someone will come along who has used it topically.

My brother has been using hydrocortisone to treat his Lupus mainly on his left cheek. His left cheek is slightly sinking in. I'm guessing it has to do with the steroids cream. If anyone had a similar problem please respond.

I mainly want to know if there are other alternative medication instead of using a steroids cream to suppress the flare ups.
