How do you start a local Lupus support group?

I want a local support group that meets. The only local Lupus support groups in my area are only by phone. This site is good, but I need face to face contact.

The only group that meets once a month in my area is an hour's drive away. rolleyes

Any tips on getting a group together?

I would start by checking www.lupus.org and find the nearest chapter. Then see if they can offer you any support. You can also see if your doctor is willing to tell his other patients that you are starting a group. You can start by meeting in any public restaurant that is informal and has seating for 10-12 at a table. I've used Panera Bread and Let-us-surprise-you in the past.

I checked the other day. There's one in my county and one in the county next to me, but they have posted that their only support by phone and don't meet. :(
My doctor comes from a two hour drive away to a borrowed room in another doctor's office. That office is in the town that the hospital does a support group, but it's an hour's drive for me. :(
Maybe I can discuss it with someone at the little hospital in the next town over???
