Hey guys, I just had a call from Barb and i wanted to update you all on her condition. Some of you know she recently lost her dad and had to go home for his funeral. Well when she was traveling on of the skycaps at the airport was helping her get into her wheelchair,while doing this he dropped her oxygen tank on her foot. Her foot developed a large hematoma and during her recent stay at the hospital the drs. opened it up and drained it. So fast fowarding to today she had a drs. appt. and at that appt. the drs. looked at her foot and told her gangrene has set in and that she must have surgery on her foot in the morning to try to save her foot. So please keep Barb in your thoughts and prayers as this is going to be very hard to heal. Barb said she'll call me tomorrow after her surgery and give me an update and i'll post an update soon as i can. Take care all and i hope everyone's having a low pain day!!

Thank you for the update. I wasn't aware that Barb's father had died. She has had way more than her share to have to deal with. I feel so incredibly bad and scared that she now has to deal with this too.

Barb...if you get a chance to read this please know that all my thoughts and prayers are with you. Please hang in there and keep fighting!!

Thank you Kay, for the post about Barb.  I just spoke with her too this morning and she asked me to post about her condition as well.  She also asked me to pray for her, as she believes in the power of prayer, as I most fervently do as well.

The problem with Barb at this point, is not only that the surgery be successful, but that she be able to heal afterwards.  Barbara is immunosuppresive and takes steroids which will compromise her healing ability.  Therefore, we need to be praying every day that her healing is continuous and thorough.  I believe you all love Barbara deeply, as I do, so please take some time out every day and turn your eyes toward the Lord and ask for His intercession, if you are of this persuasion.  For those of you that don't pray, then send positive healing thoughts to her.

I hope all of you friends of Barb are well and are not having too much pain at this time as well.

I talked to Barb late this afternoon, and her surgery went well. There was alot of dead skin and it was deep, but they feel they got it all. She will be having another surgery on Tuesday to skin graph the foot. The plastic surgeon is deciding whether to skin graph from Barb's thigh or use artificial skin so she won't have 2 wounds. She isnt allowed to be on her foot at all so it will be a long weekend (literally) for her. She did say that her foot was hurting her so I hope they can control the pain for her. That was about all we talked becuase Bill and Nikita were at the hospital visiting her.

A prayer would be good idea, and much appreciated.

Thanks for posting about Barb. She and her family will be in our prayers. Can't believe that someone dropped her oxygen tank...man! I just want her to be able to catch a break! Lots of Hugs

Never mind that..I would be pissed at the airline whose idiot dropped her oxygen tank on her foot..I'd be looking into some legal action and compensation.

Prayers and good thoughts Barb's way. I agree with Kiddiekakes, legal action to get some financial compensation seems appropriate to me, too. Yes, mistakes happen, but handling an ox tank requires due diligence and basic instruction. She has been through so much. Thanks for the ongoing updates about her, too

Talked with Barb briefly a while ago.

They are leaving the wound "skinless" so it can heal from the inside out for 2-3 weeks before putting a skin graft over it. Sounds like a really nasty wound that has to be cleaned every day.

I caught up with Barb on chat last night. They are maintaining her foot under a "vacuum pak" until it heals more from the inside out. Once it's healed enough, they will do plastic surgery to put skin back on it.

Its about a 3x4 inch wound, down to the tendons, so is giving her a lot of pain that just isn't controllable.

Same as ever...foot taking forever to heal so no skin graft yet...open wound with vacuum pack...

Hi Everyone,

I talked to Barb earlier this week, and she is sick of being sick.  The wound nurse looked at her foot and said it was doing ok, and that it will take a long time to heal.  Unfortunately, she has to keep her foot up as much as possible which means  she is totally reliant on Bill and Nikita for everything.  This has her upset as it is getting old fast.  She wants her independance back and the sooner the better.

Hi Barb and Kay.  I'm so sorry to hear of this nasty wound and all the trouble that goes with it. I haven't been on lately just cause I'm preoccupied with all my woes. I sure hope your wound heals pronto. No one should be in such pain. Love you both. Butterflake    aka Donna
