Hello all,
I have been reading all I can scrounge on anti-inflammatory diets. I feel like I need to do something more to help myself than just take my meds... and I keep hearing stories of people who drastically reduced their symptoms by changing what they eat. It seems to me like this *has* to help to some extent - every process in our bodies is a biochemical reaction, and if you're not fueling the reaction with the right "stuff" it's not going to go properly.
So far I've gone through The Inflammation Syndrome, Inflammation Nation (Chilton), The Inflammation-Free Diet (something like that - Reinagel), and the Dr. Weil pyramid. There are similarities to all of them but some things obviously are still under contention. Reinagel's approach seems flawed to me for reasons too long to get into here... and Chilton's seems the most solid. He is a Ph.D. biochemist who researched the pathway that produces the "bad" stuff and did 6 clinical trials with his proposed diet.
Similarities: Eat lots of veggies, fish (not farmed salmon - wild salmon), eat olive oil, minimize refined sugar, any grains should be whole grains, eat at least some fruit.
Differences: What other meats and how much; eggs or no eggs; how much fruit; how 'unrefined' is an unrefined grain (for example, Weil tells you not to eat any bread at all, while Chilton says whole grain breads are ok)
I am going to start with the Chilton version this week... maybe modified a little for a single person (there's no way I can buy all the veggies and fruits - half of them would go bad...)
Does anyone have experience with changing the way they eat and having it help, or know someone who did??
Thanks!
