episcleritis and positive ana blood test

Hi, I am a new member and saw this site while searching for information about positive ana blood tests. I have three recurrent episcleritis episodes back to back. Tow or three days after stopping the steroid eye drops the episceleritis returns. My eye doctor ordered blood tests and all were neg or normal(cbc) except for a positive ana. I don't know levels, they will send me to a rhumatologist. Anybody have similar experience and what was the result? Thanks!

Hi, I am doing well. I did a ton of searching and discovered some posts from women with similar unexplained elevated ana's and symptoms, but no concrete diagnosis. They had IUD's. I also had an IUD. I had my IUD removed and the elevated inflamations levels returned to normal and I have not had episcleritis or any other autoimmune type symptom since. I don't know if this applies to you obviously, but episcleritis seems to be more sporatic than mine was. Good luck!

I have been dealing with epischleritis was almost a year now. My eye doctor told me that he thought it was related to my hormones / possibly pre-menopausal. It happens almost every month during the week that I take my placebo birth control pills. My gynecologist have me a hormone patch to wear during this week and that stopped the flare ups for a couple of months but it came back. I have also recently discovered that I have a high level of copper in my blood but I'm copper deficient due to the percentage of unbound copper. I've been told that copper and estrogen levels are related and the epischleritis is an underlying condition. As Nicole said below, her episodes stopped after she had the IUD (which has copper) removed. Can you pinpoint when the episodes happen and narrow it down? It might be worth having your copper/zinc levels tested.

While most with lupus have positive ana having a positive reading does not mean you have lupus. It suggests that you might have lupus or another autoimmune disease.

Episcleritis is also commonly associated with other autoimmune diseases so it could fit that you have some underlying condition causing the inflammation.
