Lost my job!

 Well, I've been fired!

I've been a teacher for 13 years at this little school. Now they are closing it and sending people to a new school. I was not offered a position at the new school.

I'm trying to decided what to do.

Because of my lupus it is seriously hendering my job possiblities.

I'm sun and fluorescent light sensitive.

I have degenerative disk and facet disease.

I have carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis.

I get very tired quickly.

I have asthma and several environment allergies.

I keep forgetting things and saying the wrong words.

I'm having trouble with my spelling and retaining what I've read.

Job seek?

Unemployment?

Apply for disability?

I'm so sorry Joy. Do you get to finish out the school year? I know how you feel since I just stopped working in February after 13 years in a charter school. I had to stop because of the Lupus and I am trying to get disability. It has been really hard on me because at the same time we have short sale our house and have to move in less than a month with not enough income coming in. We will most likely end up living with one of our sons until my disability kicks in or I give up and get another job.

Way out your decision carefully and do what is best for you and your family. I know that for me to stop working was right I just wasn't ready for all the financial implications.

I'm single and do not own a home. I share a house with my elderly parents and pay them a "rent". The house is life estated to me upon both of their deaths in return for my financial help.
My boss told me I am under contract until May 24th. I'll receive a paycheck until August 31st. My insurance will change greatly without a job.
There's so much to deal with.... I'm so overwhelmed right now!
The reaction for me was so violent that I started throwing up some blood while I was crying.

Does it have to be a rhuemy to back you up or can your PCP do it?

Should I go the lawyer route first? The procedures for doing this is more than I can handle right now.
Everytime I start thinking about this I start crying all over again. I slept very little last night and today I am just numb. I don't know how I'm going to get through these next 8 days I'm supposed to work without breaking down in front of my students and co-workers.

My boss told me because I am under contract until the 24th I must be at work everyday and to perform my duties as though nothing is wrong.

I'm going to ask for a formal hearing on why I am being dismissed. I have until the 24th to file my request.

Reading your thoughts and the responses given breaks my heart. I know that I could easily find myself in the same place. I work for a small, alternative school and as districts keep holding onto to their kids, we are getting fewer and fewer referrals. We laid off 5 people this year and with the stress of having to do more with less, I am really not sure how I will be able to do it next year. I am cutting back one day a week, but who knows??? Your contract says .8 and then you end up working 1.5 FTE!!! When I have really bad days, I think about disability and retiring. The retiring part is difficult because I only have 15 years into the system and I am not sure how my family would be able to make ends meet (I am the main provider). I would also take Lynnwood's advice and go slow. The end of the school year can be so taxing, that you don't want to add anything else to your stress level. I spent all day at the school packing items up and loading up my car twiced. After 8 hours of hard work I'm only 1/3 way done. I have a tone of junk! I found tons of items I had lost or forgotten over the years. I filled a large 55gal trashcan with old papers out of my filing cabinets.
My back is killing me and my hands are achy. At lunch break I couldn't cut my pizza or hold my glass because of violent shaking of my hands.

One of my co-workers came over and hugged me. She told me what everyone has been saying to me "hold your head up proudly and finish the job".
