I believe you said you were denied LIFE insurance, correct? I have had lupus for 25 years now. I have severe lupus, and several others serious health issues, I am fortunate that I have Medicare and Tricare for Life, through my hubby's military retirement.
My Mother purchased a life insurance policy for me when I was 17. As we didn't have a lot of money it was only for $18,000.00. I recently tried to increase my life insurance by another $25,000.00 dollars with the same company and was denied.
I do take the medications that are used to treat lupus. I am on prednisone, plaquenil, Benylsta, injectable methotrexate, and heavy duty narcotics, and a slew of other drugs to either treat different conditions OR to help with the side effects from my lupus medications.
As Joy mentioned, with the changes with Obama care, there is insurance now offered to patients with pre-existing conditions. HOWEVER, that is MEDICAL COVERAGE IT ISN'T FOR LIFE INSURANCE.
Most LIFE Insurance companies WILL NOT cover a person with serious chronic health issues. They factor several things when giving quotes on LIFE Insurance. I haven't heard of ANY law that makes an Insurance company accept people with certain chronic health conditions.
I know from personal experiences when my Father tried to get LIFE Insurance, even though he had high blood pressure, they were willing to give him a policy but when they found that he was overweight by a lot he was denied. He passed away just over a year ago and WE, had to pay for the funeral out of pocket.
Some health issues are accepted, but they can be VERY costly. I would talk with your Dr and see if he/she recommends steroids, or an immunosuppressant. Once you get his/her recommendation you could try to reapply. I hope you can get approved for some LIFE Insurance. Wishing you the best, keep us posted
