You don't have to have a positive ANA to have lupus. You just need to meet 5 of the 11 indicators. You can find these listed at lupus.org and lupus.com.
Did he give you any pain killers or steroids?
The way I handled the beginning of my pains before I got adjusted was to use hot baths or showers, heating pads, muscle rubs, and NSAIDS.
Plaquenil will take time to build up in your system (3-6 months). So you'll feel rough for awhile as you adjust and get it under controlled.
I'm approaching my second year of Lupus and don't have as much pain as the beginning or either I've gotten adjusted to living with the pain. I also have fibromyalgia so I have a hard time telling the difference between the two pains they cause.
Try to rest and not overdo things until you adjust and learn your limits. You will have to slow down some, but don't stop living.
Sometimes people with lupus have problems with depression and need to speak with a psychologist for coping skills. It's totally normal to feel overwhelmed at this time.
