Did you have the "butterfly" rash?

I was just wondering how many of you have had the butterfly rash and if it appears each time you have a flare. I have a rash on my nose and about an inch to either side of my nose and wonder if this could possibly be the butterfly rash.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

My whole face turns red during a flare.

It does sound like the traditional rash.

Have you been diagnosed with lupus? Be sure to go to lupus.org or lupus.com to read more about lupus.
Do you have the pain that goes along with it too?

No, I have never had any skin symptoms or sun sensitivity.

Be glad you didn't/don't have any sun sensitivity, Bill.

While it isn't as troublesome as many of the things you went thru, it's a drag to this native-Floridian who loves to be outside. I've always had to be careful, since I'm a very pale skin extra-white girl, but now it's fairly impossible to be in the sun more than 1/2 hr or so.

But it's much worse for my eyes than my skin!!! I wear extra-extra dark sunglasses and to me it's still as bright as a flashlight in my eyes!

Have had many sun/heat rashes as part of Lupus, but thankfully not the always-present really red butterfly that some of us get.

I do get the Lupus rash on my face.  It's hot and very red.  Comes when I flare, but also when I have not been careful about wearing sunscreen and my hat when outside. Sometimes I even get the red rash when I think I am being good.  Like you, Lynnwood, I was a complete sun bunny before all of this happened.  Growing up in California made me gravitate to the beach and the mountains.

I have the butterfly rash although it isn't as bad as it was when I was first diagnosed. I think taking Plaquenil has helped it. I get one when I am flaring or just when I am extra tired. It sometimes feels hot but most of the time I don't even really notice it. I guess I am used to seeing it.

Before I was diagnosed my doctor said she thought I had the worst case of Rosacea she had ever seen. Of course the meds she gave me for that didn't help.

Thank you for all of your imput. I have not been diagnosed with lupus and don't have many symptoms of it, except joint pain. I do believe I have fibro, but my doctor said I didn't because it didn't hurt me when he squeezed my leg just above my knee... go figure. That is certainly not the way to diagnose fibro. So, you can see my reluctance when it comes to going back to him with this rash. I also believe I have symptoms of hypothyroidism but have not been diagnosed with that either.

  I don't have what I would call the butterfly rash but it is definitely red butterfly discoloration. I look like I have been wearing sunglasses and then been out in the sun too long and got what I coon eyes. Skin is smooth but it doesn't look norm either.

  I'm frustrated as well from not being diagnosed. I have 3 Dr.s teling me they believe I have the connective tissue disorder but haven't pinpointed it yet.

I have a butterfly rash most of the time. Some days I'm more red than others. Some evenings I'll ask my hubby if my cheeks are really red, because they feel like they are burning up. Normally, the redder it is the worse I feel.

Just recently my cardiologist just happened to see me with my butterfly rash really red and he asked if he could feel my cheeks because they were so red. He said to me "now I see you're lupus". My PCM always sees me monthly and she mentioned some days I'm redder than others.

I'd have the rash looked at, but it sounds like you need a different Dr to look at you. Hope you can figure out what the rash is and I hope your joint pain gets better.
