Close Call Last Night

Boy did I have a tough night last night. I nearly gave myself a heart attack I think LOL. It was around 11pm and I had just given myself my weekly shot of MTX.

I took the syringe into the bathroom to put it my needle box, I went to step back to turn around, and I felt the HUGE pain and a pop. I hopped to the bed, while screaming and crying in pain. Managed to sit down on the bed, my cat it looking at me like I've lost my mind. I'm yelling at the top of my lungs for my hubby and he's not responding.

Well, after about 5 minutes he finally hears me and comes running. I'm thinking I've ruptured my Achilles tendon in my right foot. I've been having issues with tendonitis in both of them. Hubby manages to lift my foot up onto the bed, puts it on a pillow. The first thing he did was give me a motrin which I'm not suppose to have cause I'm on blood thinners. I couldn't go to the hospital as it's my right foot and I couldn't drive, and hubby had had a few beers. So I waited until this morning, I was certain last night I was headed into surgery today.

When I woke up this morning the swelling wasn't to bad and I was able to stand on my foot. I can move the foot, it is really sore and painful, but I'm sure if I had ruptured that tendon I wouldn't be able to move my foot at all. Couldn't get a same day appointment so I will see if I can get in next week to see my PCM.

As for my lupus, I'm really fatigued and and hurt so bad in my joints. It's raining again here and I'm so sick of rain, I'm sure it's affecting my joint pain. My white count is really low and my oncologist thinks I have a virus. My hemoglobin is low and I'm heading towards a blood transfusion soon I'm sure.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and I'm gonna go to bed now and try to feel better, so that I can attempt some house work tomorrow. Have a good night and take care.

Wow! Scary! I hope it's nothing more than a sprain. You've got enough to deal with without that on your plate too.

Take it easy and try to rest that foot as much as possible.

Hi Barbara. You never get a break do you? I'm so sorry you're in such pain. cry If you can do housework lying down, I say go for it! Take care of yourself Sweetie. Love, Butterflake

Hi Barbara,

      This is when I dream of being a genie and having the ability to blink my eyes to get every last chore done!  I am sure that the rainy, wet weather is not helping your Lupus.  If I could I would send you a suitcase full of California sunshine.  It really is glorious today.  Here's a (((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))).  Hope it helps!

OUCH! Achilles pain is among the worst in my mind, I guess because the stories of possible rupture seem so very possible and quite vivid. I hope that isn't what is happening. Are you applying ice? Sometimes (however hard it is to steel yourself for the initial 2 minutes of freezing) ice is really a godsend with Achilles pain. (I have mine on ice now, and I'm sure it's not near as bad as what you are going thru.)

Chores? Housecleaning? LOL. You know all the stories/jokes about teenagers having big clothes piles on their bedroom floors? I never did that (wouldn't have been allowed!), but now I have 4 piles of clothes sorted for the laundry and 2 piles of clean clothes. And these piles have been there for over 2 weeks! If I cared enough, I suppose I'd find the energy, but for now...well, I guess I do need to wash the whites if I'm to have clean undergarments. But will they get sorted and put away? I doubt it. I really like Laura's idea of being a genie. Perhaps we should all open all the bottles in our homes looking for the magic genie!

Sorry I'm wandering. Strange mood today -- had to attend the funeral of a good friend -- somehow we'd lost touch the last couple of years and I didn't even know she'd become ill. It was a sudden shock to me and I feel so guilty that I wasn't available to help & support her and her partner thru her illness -- inflammatory breast cancer -- very rare and much more fatal than the usual breast cancer - which we already have more than enough of. Had affected her brain...

Joy, Donna, Laura, and Lynn:

Thanks ladies for responding to my post. Man I'm gonna come unglued, my Achilles tendons are in such terrible shape. They are so painful and swollen, I just don't know what to do. Lynn, no I'm not putting ice on them. I can't handle the cold my RA joint pain flares up as soon as I put ice on the tendon.

I really think I need an MRI of them both. Something is very wrong with my right one. When I pull my toes towards me, I feel this burning sensation in the tendon, like something is pulling apart. I know my left one back in 2001 was always swollen and painful. I noticed that I had 3 large lumps along the tendon up the back towards my calf.

Once they did the MRI, they could see that I had these small cyst like things growing in on the Achilles tendon. The Doctor said they were caused from all the inflammation I had in my tendons. The orthopedic Doctor took me to surgery, after putting me in a total non weight bearing cast for 8 weeks, then in a boot for another 4 weeks. It was officially called a debreedment of my Achilles tendon. The incision is down the tendon and across my heal in the shape of an L. It was a long recovery but I haven't had any problems until about 3 month ago.

My right Achilles is worse than the left. I'm also dealing with these stupid ribs of mine. I guess I'll call my Doctor in the morning and leave a message. I'm not due to see her until July 25th. I don't think I can stand it anymore the pain is way beyond my ability to cope anymore.

Well I'd better go, I've got an early morning Dr appointment with the GYN/Oncologist. I hope that all of you have a good night and can get plenty of sleep tonight.
