Hi Tina:
I had serious depression issues when I was a teenager and it's followed me all thru my life. However, I started having chronic pain issues and lupus symptoms at age 17. I caught a nasty case of Rheumatic Fever at 17 and was never the same after that.
My depression has gone up and down over the years. I've been in and out of therapy multiple times. I've spent two hospitalizations as mental health inpatient. Once for an attempted suicide and the other suicidal thoughts and intent.
I currently began therapy again, I was told in May that I have leukemia in addition to my Lupus/RA/Fibro. I've found that dealing with my life the way it is, is very difficult. I've pretty much reached a point where my Doctors are all stumped on what to do next.
I've tried all the medications for lupus with no real success. I've been on high dose steroids almost 13 years now. My leukemia is non curable w/o the option of a bone marrow transplant even. So I'm finding it very very hard to be positive about my future. No real quality of life anymore.
Lupus really takes a toll on us and many of us are on anti depressants, some seek therapy, and others try to muddle through things. Whichever way you go, you're NOT crazy, lupus is hard to deal with at times. Try to hang in there and if you're having a lot of troubles, maybe consider a anti depressant or therapy, never know it may help.
Hugs,
Barbara
