Lupus vs. Fibro

Hi All,

My new Rheumy seems to think I have Fibro and not lupus but I am confused.  I know some of the symptoms are similar and my symptoms could easily fit under both.  I have had two positive ANA but my ds-ANA has been negative once (not sure about the second time).  I do know Fibro does not respond to prednisone and when I was on prednisone I felt great (no pains) but I was on prednisone because of my kidney disease.

Any advice is appreciated.  What do you guys think?

You can get a second opinion to see what a different rhuemy thinks.

I see you have both. What is the difference you have noticed between your fibro sympotoms and the lupus symtpoms? I think Rhuemy is leaning towards fibro because I don't present with the molar rash and the blood work.

With fibro I hurt when I'm touched and the pain "floats" around my body.
With lupus my joints will swell and feel warmer.
I don't have the typical malar rash. My whole face turns brick red. My blood work just showed positive ANA, high SED, and high CRP. But my doctor also considered my symptoms too.
When I saw him I could barely move and was in terrible pain.

Well I will share with you my symptoms.

Burning in knees
Tingling in arms, legs and bottom of feet and hand
Stiff ankle joints
Neck and back pains (muscles)
headaches
hip pains (seems like leg is going to give out sometimes)
fatigue
sleep disturbance
wrist pains
clod fingers and toes (do not turn red or purple)
Stiff muscles all over

I know you are not a doctor but I would like to know your opinion in comparison to your symptoms.

We are all so different, so our symptoms also vary. It is not unusual for some people to have more than one condition going on. Getting a diagnosis takes time. There are a number connective tissue diseases that have overlapping symptoms. All you can do is be patient and keep a journal of symptoms. You might want to compile a list of quuestions for your doc when you see him.

Hang in there, worrying never changes the outcome...it just adds to the stress. Stress will cause more pain.
No matter what...you will be OK. We are a lot stronger than we think!

Thanks Crazykitty. I need to stop stressing, I will see my Rheumy again on Dec 9th so I will wait to see what she had to say and take a list of questions for her.

A lot of your symptoms sound like me, but I get a few more besides that.
Keep a list and take photos of any visible symptoms.
