Double strand DNA test

For all of the possible Lupus people out there this is a definitive test for Lupus. It's called a double
strand DNA test and the high end is a 9...I'm a 13 so there's no question I have it. If they say they
want to test you have them include this test.

System Lupus Erythematosus is diagnosed based on the presence of multiple standard criteria - only one of which is the ds-DNA..

There is NOT one single definitive test for Lupus -- you must match 4 or more of 11 symptoms, and even then it may be another similar auto-immune disease. See the link Diagnosing Lupus below.

The ds-DNA test is used to help DX lupus but like Lynnwood said it does not seal the DX of lupus. I've had lupus for 26 years now and I'm very sick with mine. Only on one occasion did my ds-DNA come back positive. All of my other tests have been negative. Did that change my Doctors in my DX after they finally made it. Heck NO, because he went by the criteria that the Lupus Foundation uses.

I also know that when our Doctors test our C3 & C4 if they are low that is another indicator that a patient may have lupus. My CH50 was like 6 I think, and my PCM said to me, NORMALLY ONLY LUPUS patients have a CH50 count this low. However, that wasn't saying I had the lupus, I ended up waiting another 1 before they said yep you have lupus and started treating it.

I believe May is national lupus awareness month and it would be great to spread out the word about how lupus is DX and what the 11 symptoms are. Guess that's all I can say about the blood work, other than that it's not common but I believe they say 5% of lupus patients do not even have one positive blood test and yet still have lupus. For all of you with lupus hang in there and take good care of yourself.
