Hi there sorry to hear that your son is ill. Did the Dr say for sure he has lupus? His ANA is just barely positive, which is a good thing a value of 1:40 is considered negative. My daughter has had a positive ANA ever since she was about 7 and her's has always come out at 1:640. She's now 21 and still hasn't been DX'd with lupus.
Sometimes our kids do end up getting our autoimmune disease and sometimes not. He could possibly just have Alopecia Areata. The Peds Rheumy will probably rerun labs and maybe order x-rays. He'll do a physical exam and take a complete history. Then he'll figure out whats going on with your son and make recommendations.
I've had lupus for 26 years now, I'm one of the patients that have it very severe and I've tried all the treatments for lupus and RA, they've all failed me. I've been on prednisone for 14 years as of June 1st. I'd recommend that you try not to panic to much and just wait and see what the doctor says.
Is he showing other symptoms of lupus? If you have any ?'s please feel free to ask away. I sure hope he doesn't have lupus at such a young age. Hang in there I know what you're going through I've been doing it for years with my daughter.
Hugs,
Barbara
