Hi Contentprof, I'm not gonna lie it does hurt but it doesn't last that long. I didn't take anything extra before I went for my EMG. I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. I did bring a friend though which I would recommend as the pain did linger a bit and she drove home for me.
I would suggest bringing a topical pain reliever. Something like voltaren emulgel, tiger baum or A535 (something like a deep heat/cooling menthol type rub. I think if you were to bring that and rub it into the sites that hurt after the procedure is done it may help more immediately than taking a pain reliever after. Different people have different experiences, you may not find it as painful as some. It hurt when I had it done but I survived ;) I would get it done again if I had to. Reluctantly perhaps, but I would do it lol.
Good luck! It's an excellent and informative test, very much worth any short term discomfort. I hope it isn't too bad for you. Let us know how it goes!
