Crack at the corner of my mouth won't heal

Hi

This is my first post on here, I have had a split at the corner of my mouth for a few weeks and it wouldn't heal, I have used cold Sore Creams and a cream called Daktarin Oral Gel as my dentist suggested that it was due to a dribble when I sleep which has caused an infection. This didn't work either.

I have just been to the doctors and he has reassured me it isn't a cold sore, it's something called a 'Fisher', and advised me to just use vaseline to keep the lips and that area moist and supple, as the other creams were drying it out, and then splitting when I opened my mouth or ate (there is no infection) I've never heard of a Fisher? but I will give the Vaseline a try. He asked if my bowels were okay and my periods which they are normal and i don't have periods any more, they were ruling out anemia which can cause splitting too.

Hi Kitty22 and welcome. Fissures can be quite common and it is best to keep the area hydrated as your doctor suggested. Before applying vaseline I find it helps to apply an oil such as olive oil or coconut and then put the vaseline on top of that. I get a lot of cracking skin on my hands and sometimes in the corners of my mouth, it's no fun.

Just like acquiesce I get these quite frequently and I too have a lot of cracking on my skin. Mine is usually on my shins and forearms. I too have found that keeping my skin and lips well moisturized helps a lot.
I have dry eyes too, do you think that could be related?

I to get these, a fissure is nothing more than a crack. As with any break in the skin, they can become infected. So moisturizing is very important. My driest areas are my hands and face where malar rash is. I use Eucerine cream (you can get it at the store) and Silicone Glove from Avon. Both are really good. Look for stuff that doesn't have a lot of perfumes or alcohols in it, they can irritate and dry out the skin even more.

I get the cracks too. Get densonide cream 0.05% by script. Heals in a few days. I always have it handy. Works great, drink lots of water too.
