black out spell

Today while driving my car I had a split-second blackout spell. I felt my eyes roll back in my head and then I was back again.

It scared the daylights out of me.

I used to have these spells a lot when I was working, about five years before getting diagnosed with lupus. They've only happened a couple of times since then.

When it happens I feel weak and things turn black around the edges. I get a falling feeling and then I'm back. Everything feels surreal for a few minutes afterwards.

Do any of you feel like this?

I'm seeing the rheumatologist on Thursday and will mention these spells.

I'm a recent diabetic.

Even with metaformin I never get below 100. I'm on a low dose right now.

Joy this sounds a lot like a mini stroke or TIA. I knew a lady who described very similar symptoms and expressed to me her fears of driving because of such episodes. Her dr said she was having mini strokes. And a quick google search says these are caused by blockage in blood vessels. I hope everything goes well today, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I told her about it,
she seemed puzzled and told me if it happens again to let them know.

My husband was dx'd with diabetes in January, he has always ridden a rollercoaster of high and low blood sugar. 1-2 symptoms are similar to his low sugar episodes, but it's my understanding that people who lose consciousness due to low insulin don't usually regain consciousness on their own, not without addressing the low insulin issue.

Still do worry for you Joy =/ Mini strokes could be a precursor to a full blown stroke. Is it possible that you're low on a vitamin or mineral? Did the dr do a cbc? And have you ever mentioned it to your PCP?

I sometimes get a funny feeling I can't really see scribe. It's not a total black out but it's like I feel like I'm not fully with it but it only lasts a couple seconds. Hope you feel better.
