I think Lupus is playing with my gut

For about a week I've been plagued with bloating, flatulence, constipation followed by explosive D. I seem to get hit about 5 pm every evening. My stomach's is tender to the touch at the top of my belly. At the same time my upper back hurts all the way across. smhair Today I got a cold sweat with it.

Any of you get like this? I'm worried it's my new medicine I've been on for about 7 months now (Leflunomide). Or either just one of those lovely lupus flares. I see my rheumatologist in a couple of weeks. I'm going to talk to him about this if it gets worse or continues.

Yup, I used to have a exactly that situation when my Lupus was more active. In hindsight, it may have partly been what I was eating -- since I had no appetite during that period I figured anything I did want to eat was better than eating nothing.

Are you getting enough fiber? I never thought to try that at the time, but it might help. Of course, fiber can make those kinds of symptoms worse for 4-5 days before it starts helping.

Mine finally went away, but I really don't know why.

Another thing to try is taking your med with or without food, whichever is the opposite of what you are doing now.

Good luck, I know that is painful, frustrating, and embarrassing.

I got to thinking about this and remembered having these symptoms before. They eventually stopped, but it's very annoying. I'm better today, but still tender. I avoided all dairy today to see if it helps. So far so good. I'm going to miss my low sugar cereal until I can buy some lactose free milk.

I think I remember you having this some time ago and posting about it. Mine does the same every so often and has been playing up lately. I've been drinking kefir when it acts up now and it helps alot. Kefir is like a liquid yogurt with more probiotics in it. It's relatively inexpensive and usually a half a cup in the morning before I eat anything else will set me right again after a day or two. Don't quote me but I believe it's ok for lactose intolerance as well. May be worth a try. Hope you feel better soon :)

Well, my mother starting getting sick with the same symptoms today. We've decided it's a virus. 😷

I'm still having some issues but it's getting better.
