Learning Im not really Crazy

I've recently learned I have SLE. Ok swollen joints and pain, that's what I thought this was. No I don't want your meds that cause the same problems I already have from time to time. That's how I felt. Oh there is so much more to this .Forgive me, while I vent. I have sat and thought back to when I believe this started. I had surgery in 2007 and afterwards I felt different. I even called the doctors nurse and asked," what happened in surgery" because I don't feel the same. Even thought I didn't look the same because I had breast implants put in. Something about the way I felt, sad, confused, crying for no reason. Yeah sure I had pain resulting from 2 back and neck surgeries plus many broken bones in the past. This was different. Was I losing my mind? So the next step was hormone replacement therapy. Seemed to help some but I just wasn't right. After 9yrs I find out this is Lupus. Whats hard is from day to day its a mystery how I'm going to feel. I hate so much of the thought of taking the medication. I'm on Plaquenil 200mg once a day. I've take it for a little over 2 wks now and I am feeling so depressed. I said something to the doc and I was told oh its not even in your system yet. Go see a therapist. I for sure don't want to take their drug either. I'm I doomed to mental health drugs now? Or does the Plaquenil help depression? Any thought would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to learn from peps whom have been there. Oh might need to throw in, I cant take steroids, NSAIDS, nor asp That's why such a low dose and that drug. Thanks

I honestly do not feel that what you are experiencing is from plaquenil itself. I urge you to read the side effects of the medicine, this medication has been around a long time, there is nothing that states it causes depression and definitely not bipolar. Perhaps what you are experiencing is simply coming to terms that you have lupus, I'm not sure. If you're feeling off or depressed this really should be discussed with your doctor.

Thank you for your input, Melissa and Lynnwood. I am waiting for a call from the Rheumatologist to see what she thinks. The other drug is Valtrex, to suppress the virus. I feel like I have the flu all the time. So maybe I just need to come to grips with the idea of lupus. It seemed like a Easy fix :) Thanks again for your thoughts :)

Sorry if you misunderstood but I didn't say I took it for lupus. I said the virus. Since I have the herpes virus in my blood and never had a break out . It's to keep it at bay and not have one. Are you a doctor?
