Anyone get massages that also has lupus? I have bad hips and herniated discs, so massages used to really help me. It's now Been a while since I had one, and then got my lupus diagnosis. I went last week thinking it would also help some lupus aches and pains, but it's almost a week later now and I'm still so sore. I'm the kind of sore you get after a deep massage, but it's taking me a lot longer than normal to recover.

What's everyone's experiences with lupus and massages?

It does take longer to recover from the deeper massages than pre-Lupus. I have my massage therapist do about 1/2 as deep as it feels like she should go.

Also make EXTRA sure to drink lots of water the next couple of days, plus soak in a tub of warm/hot Epson salts - both drinking water & salts help pull the lactic acid (which is what makes you feel sore) out of the body.

Since I'm disabled from my Lupus, I don't have the money to get massages like I used to -- something I really miss. Glad you can still do it, just get your massage person to work with you to find a level of intensity that is productive without wiping you out.
