Anyone have advice on how to treat trigger finger? I don't see the orthopedic until next Thursday and my finger and hand are killing me. I tried doing some research but the recommendation is to treat with NSAIDS, which I cannot take due to UC. I have been treating with heat and ice but I type a lot at work and it's becoming harder to do so. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I had what I believed to be trigger finger with my middle finger on my left hand. I hate going to the doctor but after a couple of days it was really getting painful. My husband took the top of a shoe box and made me a brace out of it. It felt better after 24 hr but I wore it for a few days to be safe.

Good to know BreRosie, I am planning to try to splint it. It has been bothering me since November and I did way too much housework over the week-end and think I irritated it. Thanks for replying! Glad yours resolved quickly!

Hi Mrs Brady. I often have trigger finger and contraction of my toes. Your post interested me so since I can't sleep I decided to look it up in my favorite medical manual. It states the cause is inflammation of the tendon and tendon sheath of the digits.

BreRosie you and your husband did exactly what the med manual states which is splint the digit. It also suggests using moist heat. An orthopedist may inject the tendon with a corticosteroid. If all this doesn't work surgery may be performed. (I've always found this funny: if a surgeon performs surgery does that make him a performer?)

Thanks Butterflake, I bought a splint last night that came with a gel insert that I heated up before putting on. It was heavenly! It feels so much better in the splint. Your post cracked me up regarding the performer! Thanks for taking the time to look into this, much appreciated. I hope you were able to sleep after your light reading!
