Hello everyone.
My name is Terri Duvall and I live in Fort Collins, Colorado. Back in 2010 I had the gastric bypass and lost over 260 pounds.
I was told I have lupus and that it effects on my kidneys, mostly my right one. So, I am on Methotrexate, Hydroxyhloquine, Pentoxifylline ER, Prednisone, Folic, Cyclobenzaprine, Fluoxetine, Trimcindone cream for some of my rash and flare ups I have, Trimcindone paste for the ulcers I get in my mouth, which really sucks, Nifedipine, Vimpat,Diclofnc , Vitamin D, B-12(for the gastric bypass ), and with this I was also diagnose with Migraines /w Aura and without Status Migraines, Paresthesia, chronic fatigue / pain.
I have a pain doctor, and a neurologist, and a hematologist, sleep disorder doctor, and a pulmonologist, rheumatologist at National Jewish hospital in Denver and final a family doctor.
I just wanted to get the word out, even now after 7 years getting the gastric bypass, they are finding that people who had the gastric bypass years later, do not absorb like we should and have been very sick, or even have died from not getting the right amount of nutrition that we should be getting. Pills and even liquids are not doing their job.
The reason I am talking about this is because I had a blood test done for just my iron level and it is very low ,like very bad low where it has caused problems in the past ,like being in the hospital for a week cause of a UTI and septic infection in my right kidney. Did not even no it, no burning, and no pain.
Now, the only way you can tell if you have a very low iron, is that they have to do a single blood test just for that. They like you 70 or above and I was a 6 to 7. Very low and very bad. All do to no absorption for my body. Trust me, I do not regret the surgery at all, but when you have lupus on top of that, it does not help at all. So now I am doing Iron Infusions at the cancer care and hematology center. Your body could be sick from something else but the one thing we all have to understand, is that it is not cause by lupus, but having lupus on top of that does not help at all, and then your body starts to fight with it self and makes you more sick.
I just want to let people know that make sure you have your doctor check that level of iron and don't give up at all
I have kept a great outlook on life and realize that the only person who is going to tell you something is not right and don't feel good at all. listen to your body and write everything down and pictures if possible. Documentation is one sure way that you can get the right help you need. Stay positive and don't give up, and have your doctor's listen to you and have a great support team.
Love and hugs,
Terri from Colorado
