Generic Plaquenil has always been problematic for me. But paying for brand, became impossible due to insurance issues. I used Sanofi Aventis brand thru Canada drugs online for over a year and then the familiar peanut shaped tablet stamped with the name Plaquenil changed to a a non stamped, different textured round tablet in blister packs in Sanofi labeled box, now from Turkey rather than UK. I continued for about a year, with gradually worsening symptoms/flare periods, and began to wonder about the quality of the Plaquenil from Turkey. After much investigating I found that Prasco Pharmaceticals produces an "authorized" generic which uses the identical formula that Brand plaquenil produced. And I was thrilled to find a local pharmacy that would special order it for me at very reasonable cost. Other pharmacies in town would or could not, due to their distributor agreements.
Sorry this is so long. My question has to do with the Prasco authorized version of Brand Plaquenil. Has anyone else experienced issues with it?
It is indeed much the same in appearance as the former Sanofi Brand, but I am continuing with flare symptoms and problems including now adding two positive dsDNA results and + U/As. I know it's possible that this has more to do with progression rather than the Medicine, but it seems to correlate back to the change in the use of the original Sanofi Brand Plaquenil that I had taken for several years.
Thanks to anyone who read through this post! There are other conditions and issues at play here, and I'm to begin Methotrexate next month, but this question keeps nagging at me. Obviously many people have taken the generic form all along with no trouble, but every time I tried to, it seemed to cause lots of GI issues and didn't seem effective at reducing symptoms. Anybody else struggle with the generic or use the Prasco authorized successfully?
