I have been taking imuran for the past 15 years, and the dr at the hospital told me to stop taking it because it has been a long time now, but at the hospital i am only seen there every 6 months because my lupus is apparently dormant. Imuran, as the drs say it is causing me to have a whole lot of warts growing on me left right and center. I really want to stop it but i am scared. can hardly afford to see a private dr. so i really dont know if i should or should not stop the imuran as u have heard both good and band things can happen, Please help. Thank you. cry shocked

Imuran is an immunosuppressant, so it is keeping your overactive auto-immune system in check, thus keeping your Lupus quiet. Of course, this also means that the immune system is not strong enough to battle with the wart growth you are experiencing.

Is the "Dr at the hospital" just a random Dr from the emergency room, or do you have a rheumatologist that has been prescribing the Imuran and treating your Lupus? I would have a chat with whoever has been prescribing the Imuran.

I would think that a series of blood tests to check your inflammation markers, etc, would give a rheumy guidance as to whether to stop the Imuran or not. It may be something you could stop for a while just to see if the Lupus becomes more active and if the warts stop proliferating.
