Yes, you *can* have Lupus without dsANA -- my guess is that your information came from your regular primary care Dr? They are general practitioners, they are not trained or experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of auto-immune diseases such as Lupus.
Since you do have a positive ANA, you do have a daughter with Lupus, and you may have some Lupus symptoms, according to your daughter, I would highly recommend a complete workup by a rheumatologist -- these are the Drs who specialize in these diseases.
In the meantime, check out Lupus 101 -- you find plenty of information there about ANA tests and what they mean, as well as a list of the diagnostic symptoms for Lupus -- you need only have 4 of the 11 symptoms to be diagnosed.
