I recently had a Auto-Immune test come back positive, the two levels were
Anti-Chromatic and Anti-Scleroderma. Normal levels are from 0 - 99, and I was obviously above that.
but at the moment I am battling a nasty chest infection, and I am assuming that the elevated levels of these 2 antibodies are related to the infection. Right ?

What I can't seem to find on-line is any numbers that tell what would be normal levels of those 2 antibodies for an immune system fighting an infection ?

Wouldn't you expect those numbers to escalate ? They referred me to a Rheumatologist, but he is booked for another month. Scheduling said they could escalate the appt. if my Dr. thought it necessary. I called the office back and stated that fact and they replied that you are just A-symptomatic. Not life threating.

Any comment on the issue or what numbers to expect for those 2 antibodies of an infected individual would be appreciated.

Some infections can lead to a positive ANA test. I haven't seen any information one way or the other about anti-chromatin or anti-scleroderma antibodies and infections.

You should have your blood tests re-done in a few weeks when your infection has cleared.

The rheumatologist might order new blood tests, plus other tests, to figure out what is happening.

Ok, ballpark question: During the infection, is it normal or common to have vales for these antibodies that are 2x, 4x, 5x the normal values ?

I had a positive ana and red butterfly rash bt wasn't lupus supposedly. Must be my lyme. Any infections like Lyme cancer etc can cause a positive ana mine was 1:40 which was right on the dot for being positive

How do you read 1:40 ? Is that 40x the normal value ?

ANA results are reported as a titer. Titers are expressed as ratios, which are obtained by diluting a portion of the blood sample with saline (salt water). For example, a titer result 1:320 means that one part blood sample was mixed with 320 parts of saline and this was lowest ratio at which ANA was still detected. The lower the dilution ratio at which ANA is still detected, the higher the titer and the greater the amount of auto-antibody present.

Any amount is a positive ANA. 1:40 is a low positive, while 1:1280 is a high positive.

A positive ANA test result means that auto-antibodies are present. In a person with signs and symptoms, this suggests the presence of an autoimmune disease, but further evaluation is required to assist in making a final diagnosis. Again, some people without disease can have a positive ANA test.

So can positive results be cause by an infection ? and then once the infection clears the ratio return back to normal ?

In general, positive results may be somewhat influenced by infection. But ANA is not a test for infection, there are many other, more reliable tests that determine infection is present and how bad it might be. Lupus is not an infection, neither are other autoimmune diseases.

Its just that my titer ratios went up at the same time that I got an infection, so I am trying to understand why I received high ratios ? Is it just a coincidence or are the two related ?

After the infection is gone, will the high titer ratios return to normal ?

This is an area that really seems to have no true "one right answer,' which seems to be like so many other areas we deal with in the Lyme world.

My ANA was 1:160 once about 6 months ago, but since I have always had a negative ANA test. That includes the Avise test, which is, supposedly, much more sensitive than other tests. I'm still confused having so many negative autoimmune tests, but having symptoms. As I joked with one of my kids "I can't seem to fail an autoimmune test." I've been negative in so many different ones (ANA, Anti-ro A and B, RA, Sjogrens, etc.... But there are so many symptoms.

Do you have any autoimmune type symptoms that might back your test?
