Big toe won't bend; mild pain

Yesterday walking across the street I walked a little faster to avoid the traffic light changing. I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my left foot big toe. I didn't have an accident and nothing fell on it. On examination the great toe will hardly bend. No discoloration and if there is swelling it's slight. about twenty hours later it remains the same with mild discomfort. What's going on?
