I don't know where to start really, but I think I've had Lupus all my life.. but been treated by the medical profession as having a psychiatric condition. I'm 63 years old.. 2 weeks ago, the rash that plagues me whenever it's hot and sunny, appeared.. (I treat it like hives because that's what I was told it was) It manifested like never before.. I hadn't been out... put the usual 'cortisone cream' on ... the rash was on exposed areas, my chest, arms, so itchy and painful, had curly cues on my un-exposed thighs and stomach, my throat and neck was red raw.. so much so I had a bag of fluid on my the left hand side of my neck.. rash around my ears, and the butterfly rash on my face.. ( never had that before) ... Saturday night.. I was desperate, wanted to go to ER.. but didn't... Sunday, my husband took me too Urgent Care Clinic.. I was told.. they would 'HAVE' to give me a drug used for people with Lupus.. Prednisone, 40mg first day, etc. And that I had to see my doctor as soon as possible.. and 'Not' to put Cortisone cream on ( it thins the skin).. and they couldn't do diagnostic tests.. but I needed to see a dermatologist too. When I got home.. I couldn't understand what had triggered it... my husband looked at our light bulbs... they were UV florescent.. energy saving, I'm an artist.. had been doing some work under 2 off them.. we have LED's now. Got to see my doctor on Tuesday.. last time I had seen her.. I had a chest infection, and shingles, also horrible leg pain and swollen ankle .. and medications for both .. I'd had x-ray, and ultra sound... everything was fine.. no osteoarthritis, no clot.. Anyway, to cut a long story short..I made her go over my medical history.. allergic to sulphides.. kidney' infections' ( that require 'antibiotics' until they get back from the lab.. then I'm told not to take them) low bone density, aching joints, even heart ( I aced the stress test ).. rashes..etc..I have dry eye too.. never ever had malar rash before.... classic.. The Doctor didn't even know about the Cortisone cream thinning the skin or that I had to have Tyrenol for pain.. not Ibuprofen with Prednisone. I have to wait months to see dermatologist, and be off the Prednisone.. to have bloods done... the problem is.. the Prednisone .. I have never felt so well.. even if I still have the rash.. I feel so much better.. but today is the last day.. I'm so scared.. I don't want to go downhill again... I'm so careful with any medications.. and do not visit the doctors that often .. ( actually got removed because I hadn't gone for 2 years ). So glad I went to the Urgent Care...
