I get the butterfly rash, but during bad flares I've also gotten the rash on my neck, upper back, chest and arms. My Rheumatologist gave me a cream, but it's useless. Recently I noticed that the skin texture on the sides of my neck has changed. It doesn't hurt or itch and it's not dry or flaky, it's just not smooth.
So I'm in the shower and I wash my back and it feels like my skin is peeling. If I gentley
scratched my skin I would get a lot of skin under my nails. It didn't come off in sheets. My skin was soft and smooth underneath. It freaked me out & I ended up working it all off.
So today I'm in the shower and the same thing happens except this time I checked my neck and sure enough that textured skin was the same as was my chest, shoulder and my face! I got it all off. You couldn't tell there was an issue will my skin until I gave it a little scratch in the shower. Once I'm dry there's no sign of peeling skin. It's only when my skin gets wet. This skin issue is new and it's ONLY happening where I get my rashes. I also am hypersensitive to heat and sunlight. It feels like I'm being stabbed with pins, again only in the places I tend to get rashes during a flare.
I have Lupus, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, endometriosis
I see my Rheumatologist in 2 months.
Could it be possible that my rashes have damaged my skin? It's like I'm not shedding skin, I'm just growing more on top of what I already have. My skin isn't discolored or hard.
I don't know any other way to describe what's happening.
It's not eczema or dermititis.
I would be grateful to anyone who can help me figure this out. Thank you for reading this.
