Eye Problems & Lupus anyone??

Hi, I recently posted regarding my headaches. The headache was still lingering on today and I started to have a funny blurry effect in my right eye. I decided to see the optician today and he gave me an eye exam. He has asked me to make an appt with my doctor on Friday and he would write to him before then. He thinks I may have something wrong with my optical nerve. I don't know what, has anyone else had problems with their eyes? And does Lupus cause eye problems. I'm a little worried about this one. My appt is on Friday at 10.30am and till then I'll just worry! Thanks if you can give me any info.

Good question!!  I am also having major probs wtih my both eyes.

I have to have artificial lens' put in them, I am on a waiting list right now, but the eye doc said he cant guarantee i wont lose sight in both eyes    When I asked if it was the plaquinal or lupus, he just shrugged his shoulders and said..mmmm probably the diabetes...but I havent been a diabetic for long, PLUS I am very very disciplined with my diet, so I dont think it is the diabetes

Hi Lion:

I was just wondering how your eyes and headache are today. I hope that you're feeling a bit better and that you'll get some solution to the problem soon. Are you still taking prednisone? I've been taking high doses of prednisone for 6 yrs now. I now am sporting in both eyes cateracts, at some point they're going to have to be removed. I've also got glaucoma and my optic nerve is damaged from my glaucoma. I hope that your doctor is able to find out whats going on with your optic nerve.

Hi lion-
I just saw the eye doc for pain in the eye socket and occasional blurriness. I have sjogrens and in a gallium scan my lacrimal glands showed alot of increased uptake meaning severe inflammation. They told me my lacrimal glands, like my salivary glands, are dying due to autoimmune disease. I see and eye surgeon for my eye doc and he's pretty sure my blurriness is due to dry eyes and I didn't belive him until he started me on restasis eye drops and that instantly relieved the pain and headache in my eye socket and helps the blurriness once it soaks in good. I guess it's an antiinflammatory cyclosporine and it seems to help my sinuses some too, relieving my headache since my sinuses are also a target of chronic inflammation. So far, they say my optic nerve is ok, but some meds I've been on have cause me problems with my optic nerve in the past, double vision and MS like problems. I'm glad you are going to see an MD or such doctor for your eyes and I hope that you don't have optic nerve problems. I think there was something else going on with my eyes related to plaquenil, he was going to write a letter to my rheumie about something, but wouldn't tell me. He's not so great in that regard, though I would trust him as a surgeon. Oh and like patty said, you can get an infection really easy, especially if your eyes are dry and/or inflamed and that will add to the problem. I also have diabetes and a lot of neuropathy that is likely related, but my eyes, even with the sjogren's are doing good. They always want to blame diabetes and be warned because my doc didn't have a clue that sjogrens presents a cancer risk, I was very concerned about cancer in my lacrimal glands or eyes due to the gallium scan results, but he said all was well.
