I am miserable and in a horrible flare. I went to the doctor and I have a possible kidney infection and he put me on Bactrim. My lower back on my right side hurts so bad. Nothing touches it. And burning when I tinkle. And  I have been having fevers at night. I have mouth sores on the right side of my mouth. The doctor says I have a boil under each armpit and behind one ear. He says my Lymph glands are ok. I ache all over. If the urinalysis doesn't come back as an infection then he is going to check the kidneys for Lupus Nephritis. I haven't had any organ involvement. And I don't want any. I missed 2 days of Plaquenil last week and I am wondering if now I am paying for it. {{banging my head on the monitor}} The doctor says that I fueled a fire that was trying to burn. And when I missed my plaquenil it lit the fire. And now I have a flare. eyes I am so exhausted and sick. The thought that this could be Nephritis scares me. The doc says that if it's Nephritis then I have to go back to my Rheumy and a Urologist. Lupus is so frustrating.

I'm curious about missing Plaq for a couple of days because my doc said that if my prescriptions (mail order) didn't come in time, I would be okay for a couple of days but for more than that he could write me a emergency prescription for the local pharmacy. I didn't have to do that thank goodness but now I'm confused.

I hope your infection heals quickly. I haven't had any organ involvement except for my lungs but nothing with my kidneys. Its good that you got the pain in a sense though because it alerted you that something wasn't right. I have read that most people with kidney problems in Lupus don't experience any pain so no warning which I guess why its important to get regular blood/urine work.

Kitty, I'm so sorry to hear that you are in a flare and feeling so rotten. The thought of nephritis is very scary - I've been there myself a few times. There was about a 6 month period where I was spilling protein, but thankfully any kidney involvement I had seemed to be very mild and it has resolved since I started on prednisone. If you do have kidney involvement, my guess is you would see a nephrologist since they are the kidney experts. Also know that I was reassured by several members here that kidney issues can often be successfully treated. I really hope your flare gets under control soon and that you get some relief - you sound really miserable. Hang in there and take care

Sorry to hear about your flare. I agree. The thought of nephritis is scary. I would not want to have it at all too. I also doubt that if missing two days of Plaquneil will cause such big flare. Lupus is always unpredictable. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. I hope you feel better soon.

hippimom, Your right it's a Nephrologist. All these ologist docs get me confused. lol. I am miserable and feel just rotten. Thankyou for the pep talk. I really need it.

dbab, the doctor said that I probably had a flare just waiting to go. And when I missed my plaquenil thats all it took. Lupus is strange.

Just wanted to say that I know how HORRIBLE it can be to be battling lupus and then to battle another infection on top. Its hard too because one never knows if the fevers are the lupus, or something else! It turns into a big mind game. argh.

I do not have any wonderful advice or glorious words of wisdom (if I did, I would be using them on me too :-) , but I want to tell you that I feel for you and am thinking of you and will send soothing healing peaceful thoughts your way.

  I hope you are feeling a bit better today...((Hugs)). It sounds like you have been in misery. I hope this clears up soon for you. Please update us when you can and take care. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Kitty I just read your post. I'm sorry you are so sick. I know it's been a few days but I also know that these flares can hang on for weeks. I just hope it doesn't last that long. and that the meds are helping.

Hey Kitty - You poor woman - this disease can be so frustrating. 

Well, it's Saturday morning so hopefully you're feeling somewhat better by now.
