Mobic vs other?

Hi everyone-

I started taking Mobic (meloxicam) about 6 months ago. I was started on 7.5 mg. I noticed a difference with a week or so and asked my doc to bump me up to 15 mg/day. It has definately helped me sleep better. Before I was on it I had to get up in the middle of the night to take another dose of advil/tylenol. And I am not so stiff in the morning anymore. I still do have to take tylenol a couple times a day (in AM and evening) as opposed to the 4 times/day was taking it before. I also started on Plaqenil about 6 weeks ago (no improvements yet.....)

I am wondering those of you who take Mobic, or have taken, can compare it to some other drugs for me. Like Celebrex or Relafen? My doc had no problems offering me vicodin, which I promptly refused at this point. I can deal with a little pain to avoid narcotic addiction! So let me know any suggestions.

Melissa, relafen worked really well for me, but unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to it and then I was told I shouldn't take anti inflammatories because of kidney issues. My son takes Celebrex for arthritis and it worked really well until he had a flare recently. It's completely up to you if you want to take vicodin. Most people don't get addicted to them, especially if you take them as prescribed, but there is always that risk. I use my vicodin (hydrocodone) only when my other meds don't take care of the pain, so I don't take it on a regular basis, but it's a blessing when my pain is severe. There's another med for pain called tramadol (ultram) that isn't a narcotic, but works in a similar way as a narcotic. Most of the time tramadol keeps my pain at a bearable level, but when it doesn't, I do take hydrocodone. Just know that each med works a little differently for everyone and the anti inflammatory that might work well for one person might not work for another, so it's just a matter of finding what works well for you. I really hope you find something that gives you more relief around the clock. Take care

Hi Melissa, I just went through a period of trying different NSAIDS because what I was taking didn't seem to control my joint pain (piroxicam), come to find out it was doing more than I thought. The plaquenil also helps my joint pain too and I am also on Flexerill which helps my lower back and stiffness in the mornings. Give the plaq more time to work, maybe it will do more than you think, did for me.

I've taken Relafan and it was very rough on me, had terrible diarrhea, cramps, etc. Then recently tried Ketoprophen, it worked well and is comparable to Piroxicam. Recently tried Mobic, it did nothing for me, Suldinac which helped a little but not as much as I would like and Celebrex which I had to stop after 2 days because of the stabbing pain in my stomach. There are literally hundreds of NSAIDS out there, I hope you find one that works well for you and you find some relief soon! Take care
