SCLE rashes w/out sun exposure?

I get SCLE annular rashes and since its that time of the year, I have a few on my arms (sun hitting through the car window). Last night, I was looking at my legs and noticed that I had a few on my thighs however they are very light compared to my arms Very strange given the fact that my legs are NEVER exposed to sunlight. I was under the impression that only sun exposed areas are where you get the SCLE rashes but I never really got into that discussion with my doc. Does this seem right? Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me? The only other time that I got them on my legs were when I worse capris and sandals and got some on my ankle area.

Des, annular rashes are new to me. Does that have anything to do with discoid sores? Whatever it its, it sounds like more than a nuisance. I hope you determine what's causing the ones on your legs.

Yeah, they are more like a nuisance than anything. They don't sore or scab over or anything and doesn't cause any type of break of the skin. Just looks like someone drew circles on me in a sense. They don't hurt or itch, just unsightly. I'm guessing this is a question for the rheumy (actually I probably need to get a dermatologist to confirm that is what they are, rheumy told me thats what they are)... I'll to take a pic so I don't forget before my next appt which is usually when they mysteriously disappear. The sun though causes them to come out but the ones on my legs are a mystery to me.

just want to say that i have that exact same picture!  i have major skin involvement, rashes, sores, livedo reticularis (huge weblike rash on my stomach halfway down my legs, it is not pretty!).  yes, it is just lupus stuff at least that is what i was told by my dermie.  i have a whole catalog of pics.  my dermie says that i am a poster child for lupus skin involvement.  a week ago i had beautiful, healthy skin and now i look like a crack addict from sores that are huge and gross (the disability doctor asked if i used, lol!  never in my life).  the sun and flourescent lights really bring about rashes on my face, hands, arms and feet if i am wearing sandals.  also, taking a shower brings "out" the rashes on my feet and makes the livedo more pronounced.  it all seems strange but you get used to it.  most of it is nothing to worry about but you have to protect yourself with lots of sunscreen, long sleeves and hats.

Hi des, I really don't know anything about that type of rash. I just wanted to say I was impressed with how well you did taking that ohto in that possition! LOL. Just teasing. I sure hope this on your thigh isn't somthing new or a sign of things to come this summer.

Thanks bella... I'm glad I'm not the only one smile It was so hot on Saturday and I wore long sleeves because we were going out to the mall and I was miserable. Not to mention that everyone probably looked at me like I was an idiot. lol I know what you mean about looking gross. Fortunately I don't have any scars as the rashes I get don't scar but when the rashes come out, I'm sure people think I'm a strange one.

Liked that Carol? I tried taking a picture of one on my scalp too and it just didn't turn out too well lol. I had to have my hubby do it and I hate getting him involved in this stuff. I just hate reminding him of how sick I am.

I just wanted to say that my rheumy told me to wear sunscreen even under my clothes, because most clothing isnt as protective as we would think.

Does ayone else do this?

Just thought maybe that could be why rashes on other parts of the bod : )

Des, I don't know if any or your sores are discoid-like, but my mother had lupus and nearly always had sores on her chest. She was an invalid and the only time she went outside was a rare trip out to dinner.

Yes Darlene, you should wear it under your clothes. Someone was stating that there is a special detergant that you can buy that actually puts a sunscreen in your clothes however I don't remember who posted that. Also best to wear light clothes as darker clothes seem to "soak" up the sun.

Mine are not discoid like, as they don't scar. The worse they do is leave like a dry patchy outlined around the rash. My husband says they aren't as bad as I make them out to be but of course he is not the ones that have to walk around with them. lol

Actually I just read that darker clothes are better as they allow *less sun* to pass through to the skin! But of course lighter clothes are not as hot! What's a person to do???!

I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible, but when riding in the car, etc. I have been using that "Rit SunGuard Laundry Treatment" on the light color clothing that I wear in the car, it does seem to help some....

It is extremely cheap compared to my other meds. smile I have picked it up at the grocery store, it lasts through several laundry washings and is easy to use.

Ellen, I'm glad you reminded me of the Rit treatment. I must remember to get some the next time I go to the store. I don't get sores on my skin, but am so sympathetic to those of you who do. I'll be thinking of you more than ever as the summer season begins.
