Does anyone feel like they get one infection after another?

Hi,

I have been sick with colds, sinuses, swollen glands/tonsils, allergies, and had a flare for almost 6 months. Does anyone else feel like they get sick over and over again? Almost like you've been sick for months at a time. I haven't gotten a full dx-just fibro and UCTD. I have posititive ANA and RF, white cell count was 11 (just barely elevated) last time checked (April), and mild anemia. Has anyone else had experiences like that? Did they eventually end for you? I'm trying not to look things up on the internet because it is scary. Many of the symptoms of these CTDs are the same as cancer and it keeps popping up. I am just sick of being sick and I want a dx so I can feel better most of the time.

Emily, having these autoimmune diseases can affect your ability to fight off viruses and infections. In the past I went through times where I would get sick a lot and seemed to come down with everything. Since I started taking plaquenil I've noticed I don't get sick as often anymore, so I'm guessing the plaquenil may have helped me with that. Like I said on another post, I'm really surprised that your rheumy didn't start you on at least plaquenil. Just because the rheumy doesn't know exactly which autoimmune disease you have, doesn't mean you shouldn't be receiving treatment. Most people with UCTD are given meds to treat their symptoms and not left to suffer. I'm sorry you are going through this and you are right that it can be scary, especially when you aren't sure exactly what is wrong. Hang in there and I hope there is some relief in sight for you. Yes, hang in there Emily.  The diagnosis will come, but it can take a while.  You're getting a lot of symptoms, so that should help move things along.

 

Sometimes, the flare ups just need to do their thing and then out of the blue, you start to feel well again.  Especially if you're on the right medications.  Make sure your rheumy tries you on other meds if the ones you're on now just aren't working.
