I was watching a re-run of a "House" (TV show) episode last night. Dr. House occasionally sends doctors out to inspect people's houses to look for things that might be poisoning the patient or whatever. In this case they diagnosed Munchausen's (Munchausen's syndrome is a psychiatric disorder in which those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves) based on the fact that the patient had notes for 2 dr appts on her bathroom mirror. I realized I have a list on a sticky-note on my computer monitor that reads: "Dentist, Bone Scan, Mammogram, Gynecologist, Dermatologist" - 5 medical appts!!! Since that's more than Dr. House's patient had, does that mean I have Munchausen's??? And Little Audry laughed and laughed, 'cause she knew she didn't have anything more complicated than lupus (and that was enough)!

Ha ha Lynn!!! Funny you bring that up... I saw that too and when Dr. Cameron pointed out about the stickys and the doctor appointments, my husband swung his head around right at me and said "do you have Munchausen's?" We both FOFL!!!! My stickys are everywhere, duh how else are you going to remember with this brain fog?

Hi Lynnwood, Yeah I watched it too. You better watch out you'll have House checking out your cupboards next! nono . I only wish that was my problem. I could stay healthy on nice days and have someone feel sorry for me on rainy days. Like they said on the program it really isn't any fun when it's for real is it? They'd have a field day serching my place. I get most of my meds thru the v.a. so they give me a 3 month perscription. I use my overnight make- up case to keep my meds in. Plus one full dresser drawer has my backup supply! LOL. tongue Oh and my appts and such.......I have a file cabinet LOL.

Hi, Lynnwood. As if my head injury was not enough, now I have lupus too. I say "Amen!" to the note system. I always feel subconscious when I go to my doctor's appointment's because I have to carry a back pack to take everything I need to remember. I feel I must make a joke that I carry my brain with me. I make weekly calendars on my computer listing out the dozens of meds which are constantly changing, and I take those with me. I also read in a book after I was first diagnosed about the importance of keeping a journal so you can record what is happening to you and have a record of what's going on since it's hard to remember after so much happens, I take that too. I also have a folder that I keep all of my prescription sheets in so I will know if I need to request any refills, so that's in there. I have recently added a bloodsugar meter and the notes for that. Then there's my personalized note pad which lists the specifics that I need to be sure to cover for the appointment. I have an erasable note pad on my fridge, a weekly calendar on my kitchen table, sticky notes by my computer, need I go on? I definately know what you mean!

OMG, I'm a hypocondriac! We should change the name of this forum from Lupus to Munchausen's! We all have it!

Oh gosh, I guess we all must have it  .  They'd have a hayday at my house with all my notes and calendars.  Then there's the cabinet full of meds and my med box, not to mention my son's med box and his meds, and doc appointments, so I guess I have both Munchausens and Munchausens by proxy (where you make your kids sick to get attention). I've never watched House but I hear it's a pretty interesting show.

All I have to say is.......AMEN LADIES!!!! House is a very interesting show. But I myself have ALOT of sticky notes, calendars galore w/ appts. marked on them. That's the only way I can remember everything. God Bless You All!!!

My counter is littered with the little appointment cards for the doctors appointments, all laid out in a special order. I think I would get extra bad points for disorganization. Can you be a disorganized Munchausen person? I think all these psychiatric syndromes that consider patients to be dishonest (and they're always women for some reason) say more about the sick depth of arrogance and sexism some doctors have (do we have a name for that syndrome?) than about the patient and their condition. What would you call that A******* doctor syndrome?

If only it was just a mental thing, we'd all be healed!

LOL Marji!  My boyfriend and I watch House and when House et al are throwing around possible diagnoses, one of them always says, "Lupus?" BF and I turn to each other and says, "It's never lupus!"  My meds are in a cabinet arranged in rows by 1) Lupus meds 2) pain meds 3) maintenance meds [for glucose, bp, cholesterol] and 4) psych meds.  Next to all this are the weekly med boxes filled out once every three weeks. Interestingly, even with bad fog I can remember all this. Some things are just pounded in over and over...

Ummmmm. Good question. For me, I've got some in a color I hate, so when I have to resort to using them, I end up buying more rather than use the nasty colored ones...(also my shopping list is on index cards rather than sticky's) Probably some people have SO's (friends, family, etc) who help them remember.
