I had made plans for this morning but I got derailed. sad I hope it's just a temporary set back due to the weather and not the beginning of a flare. I woke up and my throat hurts and my glands are SWOLLEN! I'm gonna go back to bed and see if I feel better later. I leave for vacation in 10 days. eyes

Sorry Carol, I hope it clears up. Maybe there is something going around in OK because I've been battling a sore throat and swollen glands for 3 weeks now. I haven't ran a fever or I would have gone to the doc by now.

Thanks Jeannie, I'm sorry you have been fighting this. I hope you're right that it is just somthing in the air. I am having some pain in my left knee joint and some sores on my gums. But the weather has been yucky for 2 days as you know so I can blame some of that on the weather. I wear dentured too and some times that makes my mouth sore. Boy I wish there was a clear cut way of knowing what is going on. The first Rheumy appt I had I told him I wasn't sure how much was being sick and how much was my age. He said that is the way it always goes. Anyway thanks for your reply and I hope you get over your illness too.

Carol, I hope this passes quickly for you and that you are feeling better by the time you leave for vacation. Make sure to take it extra easy. The weather has been really nasty in a lot of places and it can be really hard on our symptoms. We've had lots and lots of rain and storms and flooding which has caused my pain to skyrocket. Hopefully once the weather clears up your symptoms will get better. Don't hesitate to go to the doc if things don't get better because you don't want to be sick for your vacation. Get lots of rest and I hope your symptoms clear up soon. Take care

Hi Hippi, I'm sorry you are having so much pain. Yes this lousey weather. Actually I am worried about the winter time. I know most on here have said they would rather not have the heat but I fear the cold in the joints. I guess I'll have to get some long underwear or somthing. I will go to the doctor if this is just a passing thing. You're right I really don't want this to interfear with my trip. I got 9 days to gets things done like laundry and packing and cleaning out the stuff from the fridge. get my bills paid all that stuff that has to be done before you take a long trip. So I really can't afford this to linger. I'm just wondering if there is somthing the doctor can prescribe besides pred. I'm just finding out that the way I react to large doses isn't normal. I get really paranoid and kind of wacky. I always thought everyone felt that way because it goes away after I quit the large doses. But since that isn't a normal side effect it can't be good for me. I hope you get to feeling better soon. You have been having problems since before your vacation havn't you?

Carol,

Oh no, I hope this is not another set back for you. Used to, when I started getting swollen glands, scratchy throat, etc, I would down a whole bunch of Vitamin C to boost my immune system. Can't do that anymore :( Last thing we want to do is boost our immune system. Make sure you get plenty of rest and fluids. Hopefully this "bug" thing will be gone in no time. I'm keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks Des, You know I never thought of that about the vitamin C. I've always done that too. I don't have any or I would have done it. What on earth are we supposed to do than? :(.

Hi Carol,

I'm so sorry you're feeling bad this soon before your trip and I also hope that it's not the begining of a flare! Can you put off doing all the chores you have for a few days so that you can get lots of rest and maybe ward off what's going on with you? I've found that the best way for me to feel better is to rest, rest, rest, and drink lots of fluids and eat healthy meals. Bless your heart, I hope you're feeling better by the time you leave for vacation. Are you going to Arizona? I have my fingers crossed for you!

Hi Patty, thanks hun, yes I am going to arizona but first I'm going to Branson Missouri for about 5 days. I'm not leaving til the 5th so hopefully I can get stuff done and feel better before than. I've been getting sharp pains shooting up my face today. Not like heart attack but like nerve pain in my face. I don't know what causes that. I told my SIL I was gonna go on the Lupus site to see if I could find anything. She didn't even let me finish and said "DON'T GO ON THE LUPUS SITE JUST PRAY about IT" errrrrrrrrggggggggggg. Hello don't you think i have done that? I just get so sick of people sometimes.

Sorry I'm really having a bad day. I would seriously like to *&&*%$##*((()**&^%$^%$ somone! skull

I guess I need to get some rest before I flip out LOL

Hi Okie,

I know just how you feel, REALLY! I have the throat and gland thing and in my ear going on. It's been like that off and on for about a month. No temp or off I would have been to the doc. I've also been anemic for 3 months....low iron, but won't put me on iron. Since I"ve also got sclero they want to rule out bleeding in the GI tract/belly first. I've got all those fun scopes scheduled for the end of Sept. (thinkk they'd do them sooner, but I'm in no rush for that fun!) Anyway, we also leave for vacation on the 6th, I think...is that a Friday?

I'm like you in that I know I've only got so much energy for one day and so much to get done before then. And to top it off, our daughter starts her classes on Monday. That means I start watching our little grandaughter half days. Now you know what I'll be doing the other half the day--sleeping!!!

Oh well, l'm just going to do it little by little. I decided i'm not going to leave all worn out. Last summer we went away for a few days. I was so tired when we left that I was sick most of the days we were gone. And this year we're going to my favorite place: Colorado! So no way will I leave pooped out for that! I'm pooped enough just normally!

So let's promise to take care of ourselves and not worry about details. They will soemhow get done. We will manage to throw some clothes and shoes in a bag to go. If not, we'll buy new ones. Can you say "charge it"?

Hi carol--
I know how bad sore throats and swollen glands can be and I hope they feel better soon. My bf swears by an old remedy of taking a piece of bread, soaking it in milk and using it as a drawing plaster. It works on some stuff. I hope you feel better soon and if necessary go get some antibiotics to knock out the infection. Mine did that and it never went away and I had to have them out and they were just burnt out from chronic inflammation from AI disease. Others have calcified. Hope you have fun on your vacation. On face pains, possible sinus problems? severe? Maybe you have a little respiratory infection or something. I use flonase and it helps. Well hope you feel better soon and have fun on your trip!

Carol, how are things going today? I really hope that you aren't getting an infection. Even though your SIL was trying to help, it sounds like she doesn't get it at all. Doesn't she know you can pray and come to the lupus forum? You don't have to do just one or the other. I doubt this is what is going on for you, but I've noticed some seasonal allergy symptoms lately, so I don't know if pollen counts are higher now than usual. I usually get a sore throat and sometimes some swollen glands and headache. Whatever is going on with your glands, I hope it resolves soon so you don't have to worry if you'll be healthy for your vacation. Take care of yourself. Love and hugs

Hi Emmie, Marji and Hippi, I hope you ladies are feeling well today. Thank you so much for responding. Actually emmie, the 6th is a thursday. You sound like me. lol I hope you have a wonderful time in colorado! Hi Marji, Hey I'll try anything once. Milk and toast at least doesn't stink like some stuff I've used. I think I may have some kind of sinus problem. I had to wear my sunglasses today because the sun really hurt my head. So that would kind of make sense. I'm sorry you have had such a rough time with your glands. That's really scarey to me.
Hippi, thanks for being so understanding. I talked to my brother about his wife saying that to me. He of course sided with her. He told me I need to get rid of my computer so I didn't look up stuff cause I was just wallowing in my sickness. They have no idea. If I was wollowing I I'd be trying to guilty them into making me meals and cleaning my house and my laundry and dishes. I mean what do they think when i am in the hospital twice a year? I'm faking it? God forbid they should ever have a chronic illness. I should just up and die em that would teach em! LOL Just kidding. I actually feel like what they are really saying is "carol your being sick is a drag for me so I don't want to hear about it. So i'll just tell you that you are looking for sympathy that way you won't mention it to me again." and they are right I will never ask them to help me again. I do have some self respect. If I have to go to the hospital I'd call the ambulance first. Can you tell I'm still angry with them?

Hey Omega! How the heck are you? Wow you're right it's been forever. Are you still on the cellcept? How is that working for ya? Are you still getting all those lovely mouth sores? I hope the doc was able to get those ulcers under control for ya. hey girl we need to catch up!

Hi, Carol. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I can pass along my mom's favorite suggestion for a sore throat. Gargle SALT WATER!!! I can hear it before I even need to place a call to her. She's said it so many times, it rings in my head! She suggests gargling vinegar too. But, I can't stomach that one! It sounds like more of an infection that you may need a little help with considering the swollen glands though. I really can't offer a thing on the shooting pains though. I just hope you can rest and get to feeling better before your vacation, just don't wait too long and let this get bad. Please let us know how you do. You're in my thoughts!

Hi Sharen, Actually I do beleive in the warm salt water. I've used it before with good results. I am doing some what better today but a little tired. How are things going for ya? How are things going on the home front?

Carol, You poor thing. I'm so sorry you still aren't feeling well. I don't blame you for being angry after your SIL was so insensitive. She may want the best for you but her lack of understanding has to be so frustrating for you. My hubby's best friend asked me the other day how I'm doing and I told him I'm doing much better and he responded "You know, the mind is a powerful tool". I just smiled and didn't answer but it did hurt my feelings. I've tried sooo hard to keep a positive mind and to think positive and healing thoughts, but he must think I just sit around and wallow in bad thoughts. It made me feel like he thinks I'm weak. He's a terrific guy so I just let it go but obviously it bothered me or I wouldn't be mentioning it. Hippi's right, your SIL and my friend might have been trying to help but it seems that hardly anyone "gets" it about this disease. Gratefully, my family does and that's really what matters.

What's important is that you start feeling much better before your vacation. I leave real early tomorrow morning and don't return till late on the 4th and you leave on the 5th so we won't hear from each other for ages and ages. I'll be thinking about you and hope the dry arizona weather helps your joints and you return feeling much much better.

Emmi, I hope your vacation is great also! It's so good to hear from you more and more these days. I missed you while you took a little break from the forum. You're right about just throwing some clothes in a bag. I haven't even started packing and I'm usually so organized and well prepared, but I just can't manage it all right now.

Have a great vacation Carol and Emmi, and I'll see you back in in September!

Hi, Carol. Bless your heart for asking how I'm doing when you're the one feeling bad. I'm doing okay. I still have a lot of fatigue from this taper, (I guess) that I have to work through on a daily basis. I had a dentist appt. this morning and I did some errands afterwards, so tomorrow there will be no alarms set. I'll be catching up on my rest. My blood sugar has about worried me to death, but the #'s are finally starting to be in the normal range on a more regular basis. I think I'm finally getting the hang of what I can and cannot eat to control it. It catches me off guard sometimes still, but I'm gonna get it! I just hope you can get to feeling ALL better before time for you to leave for your vacation. How are your lymph nodes looking now? Are you getting extra rest too? You really need to be 100% for this trip, I think there may be another chance for a cowboy in AZ! Let me know! :o)

People can be so thoughtless sometimes. You may already be aware of this, so excuse me if I'm too new. I read about that Spoon Theory in a post here recently and went to check it out. Have you ever looked over that whole website? I thought of you because there are some really cute things to read in the "Sick Humor" link on the left hand side of the home page. It's not "sick humor", it's humor sick people will relate to. There is a really cute letter from your chronic illness and reply to read, but also a few other cute laughs as well that I think we can really use a lot of. Take care of yourself. Keep us informed, okay.
