I know it is not the lupus or fibro or even the RA causing the level of fatigue I am having. I also know I was never this fatigued with my other pregnacies. So I decided I would ask here about the new medication they added for morning sickness. The doctor prescribed anti-nausea patches to be worn behind the ear for 72 hours or until they stop sticking. Does anyone here have any experience with these? He said it is something they tend to do for patients who have severe nausea from medication. If so did it make you want to sleep constantly? How do you keep from sleeping constantly while on a medication like this one? I appreciate any help or advice you all can offer. This patch is only 1/2 about the morning sickness and 1/2 about medications I can't stop taking.

Other than sleeping constantly I am doing better than usual. I normally would be spotting by now and there has been none. I am hoping that since we have the lupus under control this is a good sign of having a less eventful pregnancy.

Hey Rose, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond . . . just wanted to say that I'm sorry you are nauseous and had to add another med . . . I think that most antinausea meds DO make you drowsy . . . one of the other topics is talking about one that does not. If you know the name of the patches, post that too so someone might recognize it. You can also try Drugdigest.org to look up your med. I hope you feel better soon. Blessings!

Thanks Rosie, I did some searching on the patch and found out it should not have been prescribed because they have no clue if it is dangerous in pregnancy. It is called Transderm Scop. I will have to ask for another anti-nausea. If you happen across the discussion on one that does not cause drowsiness let me know where to find it, I am still rather tired and without the patch the morning sickness is worse. At least we know my body is producing the proper hormones this time around.

redrose, I'm glad you did your own checking into this med. I really hope that you are able to find something that helps your nausea that is safe to use while you are pregnant. I'm glad to hear the pregnancy is going okay so far. I know what it is like to be waiting and wondering and watching for signs of anything wrong. Take it easy and keep taking good care of yourself.

Redrose, good for you for checking to see if the patch is safe for pregnancy. Nausea knocks me completely down and I know you must be miserable. I hope you can find something that is safe and that helps. It sounds like everything is going well and I'm so happy for you.

Redrose . . . have hubby run to the drugstore (call first and make sure they have item in stock) and ask for SeaBands. They are little bands you wear on your wrists. For some strange reason, they help control nausea, especially if you where them BEFORE you get queezy. I wear them if I venture onto a boat and hubby used to carry them for passengers when he had a little fishing boat and many are helped by them. It works via acupressure and they are less than $10 . . . so it seems worth a shot because they will not hurt your little rosebud!! Meanwhile . . .I'm sending you some hot tea which should help!! PS . . . I seriously doubt that you could take such a strong med during pregnancy, but the name of the nausea med is Zofran.    I think it is mainly used for nausea from chemo.   The topic is at: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=29&m=921102&g=921361#m921361 Blessings!!

Last year before I went into the operating room for a hysterectomy they put one of the anti-nausea patches behind my ear. They used that instead of putting meds into my iv bag. It worked great, I didn't have any bouts of nausea at all! Hopefully it will work for you as well as it did for me. Also, if you've ever taken Benadryl you know it's one of those drugs that knock you out. I've had occasions where I've had to take high doses of it for more than a week and after a couple of days the sleepiness went away. I have a feeling that this is the same type of drug where after you've taken it for a few days your system starts to get use to it and you won't be so sleepy from it. Rose, I'm taking Zofran (the one Rosie mentioned) right now due to abx therapy and its not causing drowsiness. I made sure to tell the doc that I needed something that didn't cause drowsiness because I needed to take the med at work. They said Zofran does not. I think I read its safe during pregnancy also so I hope its a candidate for you... and good news is that Zofran is now available in generic form.

Thanks I looked it up and it is category B I see my new pcp tonight and will ask for a script to hold me over until I see my OB on Oct 10. His office said that no scripts can be called in w/o an office visit and no openings before then are available for pregnancy.

Sea-Bands are effective for nausea during pregnancy. The bands treat an acupressure point on the wrists that supresses nausea caused by motion sickness, morning sickness of pregnancy, and nausea from chemotherapy. There is no interaction with other medications, and there are no side-effects for Mom or unborn Baby.

I know I have mentioned this before and it makes it sound like I am a ginger freak lol, but sipping some strong ginger tea is AMAZING. They have done medical studies on the anti nausea effects of ginger and it truly does work.

Fresh ginger works great, but you can use powdered ginger from your spice cabinet as well. Add some honey if you like. You just chop a few pieces of ginger into a mug and add boiling water.

You can also buy ginger tea, that is dried ginger root in tea bags at the grocery or health food store. I encourage you to try it, it worked amazingly well for my severe nausea. I also used the sea bands and they helped so much too.

ps.. how many weeks are you along? Hopefully by the `12th week or so it will let up.

I use ginger when I can but was asked to avoid all herbal teas including peppermint and ginger until the effects on the uterus could be looked into. Apparently some of the teas can cause problems. I hate this.
