confused about creatinine levels

Last week I saw my dr. and had several usual tests run.  They came back unchanged, however my creatinine levels are up this time.  This is new for me and I've tried looking on Wikipedia and a few other websites to figure out what effect this is taking on my body and whats happening because of it, only to come up confused.  Can somebody fill me in on this?  I'd really appreciate it.  Take care everybody.  Thanks.

Hi Firebabe,

 

Testing your creatinine levels is used to evaluate your kidney function.  I noticed in your signature line that you have lupus nephritis, so this test is important.  I've attached a link to the best website for all our questions regarding tests, etc.  I hope you get the info you need.  Your best resource is your rheumy or family doctor though.

Firebabe, Did your doc give you any insight of what he can do for you about your creantine levels? I hope that your nephritis is not acting up and that your levels will do down soon. Keeping you in my thoughts.

I also have lupus nephritis. Your creatinine is an indicator of kidney function, but not your creatinine alone. Several factors can cause a rise in your creatinine. It doesn't always mean your kidneys are failing. You could be dehydrated. Is your BUN also elevated? What was your creatinine? Did your doc mention you glomerular filtration rate? These are all important indicators of what is going on. Are you currently spilling protein? I am not a doc, but i've been dealing with kidney disease for years. My creatinine has fluctuated at times. Don't panic. Ask alot of questions. Make sure you're clear on what's going on. It will decrease alot of stress and worry! God Bless You, Judy
