Hi Marji,
I have not noticed any negative side effects from using Soy yet.I dont use a whole lot of it though. If i have one cup a day that is a lot.I was never a big milk drinker so replacing milk with soy milk wasnt such a big deal for me.I will keep you posted if i feel anything weird after having soy.Soy sauce seems to give me a headache.Maybe it's because it's fermented and i'm reacting to a fermented product.
As for the flaxseed,Flaxseeds are great for preventing colon cancers and other types of estrogen positive cancers. It's good for those who are estrogen sensitive too.You must use ground flaxseed though.Whole flax is almost impossible to digest and anyone who has a history of diverticulitus would not want to use whole flaxseed. The best form is GROUND flaxseed meal. It's easiest to digest and you will get the more of the benefit of flaxseed if you use the ground.Naturally,Flaxseed binds with estrogens that are naturally found in the colon and brings it out.Either way, flaxseed oil and the meal have high omega 3 fatty acids. Two tablespoons of flaxseed meal has 2,400 mg of omegas.Check what your oil has per tablespoon. The Omegas are supposed to be great for reducing inflammation.
There is great info on anti-inflammatory diets and diets that reduce estrogens on Dr.Weil's website. He has diets and other formulas that are great for people with autoimmune issues ect...it's worth checking out.I'm on his website at least twice a week.
