stomach spasms and lupus?

Hi, I'm new to "chatting" as well as new to having lupus and RA. I was diagnosed with SLE just last December 06. Since then I have had to go to emergency for stomach problems every 2 -3 months. I have been told that my stomach is spasming and the doctors in emergency and my family doctor have run all sorts of tests but everything comes back normal. When I have to go to emergency they usually have to give me fluids as I am unable to keep even water down. They also give me anti-spasm medication, anti-nausea medication and pain medication. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this kind of pain in their stomach before? My rheumatologist does not believe that it is lupus "attacking" my stomach so he is baffled as well.

Hi beginner, There are so many places that Lupus can attack. You didn't mention the meds you are on but there are alot of meds that can cause stomach problems as well. I really don't have any answers for ya but I did want to welcome you to the group. Usually someone will have gone thru the same thing. Hopfully someone will read this and be able to help you out.

Hi Beginner,

 

Welcome to the forum.  I too, wish I had more information to give you on this. I've never experienced anything like you've described.  The only way to really know if it's lupus attacking your stomach is to have a biopsy of the tissue taken.  That way they can see if there's inflammation going on, and other things.  I'm not sure what other test they could do. Maybe a scope with a camera on it?  I hope someone will come along and shed some light on this for you.

Hi Carol and Ginny, thank you for responding. I believe that I left out a lot of information about myself so here are some tidbits: Since first being diagnosed with RA and then being told that it was Lupus, I have been on a whole truck load of medication before finding out the best one for me. I currently am on methotrexate injections weekly and Enbrel injections weekly along with taking calcium, vitamin D, and folic acid. I also have a lung disease so I take an antibiotic once a month to keep my cough under control. I have had a scope put down into my stomach and a biopsy was taken on my stomach and small intestine walls which everything, thank goodness, came back "normal". The doctor said that it looked red but he said that it could be just from the strong medication that I am on.
